Inside Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka’s Home That Has a Magic Office | Architectural Digest

04:04
Architectural Digest visits actors Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka at their townhouse in Harlem. A Jonathan Adler light fixture crowns the living room, where Room & Board sofas are grouped with a high-back chair designed by Powell & Bonnell for Dennis Miller Assoc., Arteriors nesting tables, and a bespoke Trace Lehnhoff cocktail table. The parlor floor’s central hall features a vintage Venini light fixture and (atop pedestals) sculptures by Tom LaDuke; works by Ed Templeton are arranged along the staircase. In the music room, walls clad in a Donghia fabric serve as a backdrop for a large Annie Lapin painting, which overlooks a Yamaha player piano and a Bourgeois Bohème Atelier chaise longue. Holly Hunt pendant lights are suspended above the Caesarstone-top island in the kitchen, which is equipped with a Wolf range and hood. Furnished for entertaining, the parlor-floor salon is outfitted with a bar that was salvaged from a Connecticut hotel and acquired from the Demolition Depot/Irreplaceable Artifacts; the chandelier is by Carolina Fontoura Alzaga, and the artworks are by Ed Ruscha, Ahmed Alsoudani, and Francesca Gabbiani. The walls of the den are covered in an Andrew Martin wallpaper and decorated with colorful magic memorabilia; the guitars are by Gibson and Jean Larrivée Guitars, the vintage desk and chair are from Arte de Mexico, and the sofa is by RH. A wall covering by Calico Wallpaper adds intrigue to the master bedroom, where a Jason Miller light fixture from Design Within Reach hangs above the custom-made bed, which is upholstered in a Rose Tarlow Melrose House fabric. Anchored by an RH Baby & Child bunk bed, Gideon’s room is enlivened by a Flash Gordon lithograph and a Keith Haring chair by Vilac; the Roman shade is of a DwellStudio fabric for Robert Allen, and the carpet is by Safavieh. The master bath’s shower fittings and tub are by Kallista, and the tiles on the tub surround, walls, and floor—as well as the python-patterned mirrored tile—are by Ann Sacks. Artist: Architectural (aka Reeko) Title: Architectural 7.0 Label: Architectural Catalogue. ARCH007 Genre: Electronic Style: Techno Release date: 19 February 2016 Following Secret Chapter, Architectural's debut LP, and the release of Amour in 2015 with the Dutch imprint Wolfskuil, we are delighted to bring you release number 7 which continues a saga of EPs that are very effective on the dance floor without renouncing to their atmospheric and experimental roots. Presented in an elegant 10" transparent vinyl, its two tracks, 7.1 and 7.2, share the limelight and will both leave the dance floor in ruins. In 7.1 Architectural goes back to his roots with marked low lead lines that star in a very intense episode. The resulting sound is dense and compact, and connects the American essence and feel to European abstract futurism. Many will define this track as pure Architectural. 7.2 is not suitable for heart patients. Its intense and rhythmical bassline can put the listener in a hypnotic state for several minutes waiting for something to happen. The repetitive rhythm from the start is so strong it becomes strongly addictive. The track evolves towards an end worthy of a terror movie, where the snare provides an aggressive beat complemented by striking atmospheres. Both tracks are the perfect weapon for any DJ willing to put to the test the best sound equipments.

ALPHA - The SECRETS of the ARCHITECT

03:01
ALPHA - The SECRETS of the ARCHITECT. Alpha is not only an insightful and astonishing culmination of two minds coming together to present the essential elements of Hebrew history, but it serves as an important message of hope that gives credence to biblical history and teachings. The two authors spent two years combing through scientific data and hieroglyphs to decode the mysteries surrounding Moses and his people. Using official, sacred text, prophecies, and the laws of physics, Abaidia and Charni strip away the myths to reveal God's plan for humanity. Discover the truth—God's Truth—of what was and what is to be. It will change the way you view your life and the world around you. http://www.strategicpublishinggroup.com/title/Alpha-TheSecretsOfTheArchitect.html The Kindle version: http://www.amazon.com/Alpha-Secrets-Architect-eboo k/dp/B0077RQM24/ The B&N ePub version: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/alpha-the-secrets-of-th e-architect-sami-charni/1108786173?ean=2940014048095 Alpha - The Secrets of the Architect By Mourad Abaidia and Sami Charni Dedication For the Eternal For the Sufism For open minded people and hearts of faith Table of Contents Preface 7 Preliminary chapter—The Enigma of Tables of the Law 11 Chapter I—The Hebrews and Their Monotheism 19 A—The Famous Ousersaf 19 B—The Intrusion of the Monotheism in Egypt 26 C—The Source of the Monotheism 36 D—The Observatory of Countdown 38 Chapter II—The Ghorba (the Refuge of Moses) 54 A—The Architect 54 B—The Refuge at Midoun 57 C—Redha Mentha 63 Chapter III—The War of Moses 79 A—The Stele of Merneptah 83 Chapter IV—Moses King of Jeshurun 92 A—The Savaïva and the Hand of Fatma 106 B—The Death of Ramesses B 111 Chapter V—The Ten Commandments 115 A—The Scripture Mousit 117 Chapter VI—The Six Malaket(s) of Adam 131 A—The Last Malaket 134 B—Qashem and the Judeo-Nazarenes 138 Chapter VII—Hermes and His Mysterious Caduceus 153 Works Cited 170

11. Notorious Nero and His Amazing Architectural Legacy

01:13:50
Roman Architecture (HSAR 252) Professor Kleiner features the architecture of Augustus' successors, the Julio-Claudian emperors, whose dynasty lasted half a century (A.D. 14-68). She first presents Tiberius' magnificent Villa Jovis on the Island of Capri and an underground basilica in Rome used by members of a secret Neo-Pythagorean cult. She then turns to the eccentric architecture of Claudius, a return to masonry building techniques and a unique combination of finished and unfinished, or rusticated, elements. Finally, Professor Kleiner highlights the luxurious architecture of the infamous Nero, especially his Domus Aurea or Golden House and its octagonal room, one of the most important rooms in the history of Roman architecture. The construction of the Domus Aurea accelerates the shift in Roman building practice toward a dematerialized architecture that fully utilizes recent innovations in concrete technology and emphasizes interior space over solid form. 00:00 - Chapter 1. Paul Jaskot-The Thomas Jefferson Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians Lecture

01:13:53
The Thomas Jefferson Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians Lecture Paul Jaskot, PhD “A Plan, A Testimony, and a Digital Map: The Architecture of the Holocaust” March 15th, 2017 The Holocaust was a profoundly spatial experience that involved not only the movement of millions of European Jews but also their confinement and murder in sites specifically built for the genocide. Paul Jaskot’s talk addresses how perpetrators thought of their building projects and, conversely, how victims experienced these oppressive spaces. Analyzing the architecture of the Holocaust helps us in understanding the larger development, implementation, and context of this crucial event. In addition to an architectural plan and a specific survivor testimony as examples, the lecture also explores how recent methods in Digital Humanities—particularly digital mapping—can be used to investigate plans and testimonies to raise new questions about the spatial and historical significance of the Holocaust.

04 Washington DC Part 3 - Secrets in Plain Sight

09:45
Secrets In Plain Sight is an awe inspiring exploration of great art, architecture, and urban design which skillfully unveils an unlikely intersection of geometry, politics, numerical philosophy, religious mysticism, new physics, music, astronomy, and world history. Exploring key monuments and their positions in Egypt, Stonehenge, Jerusalem, Rome, Paris, London, Edinburgh, Washington DC, New York, and San Francisco brings to light a secret obsession shared by pharaohs, philosophers and kings; templars and freemasons; great artists and architects; popes and presidents, spanning the whole of recorded history up to the present time. As the series of videos reveals how profound ancient knowledge inherited from Egypt has been encoded in units of measurement, in famous works of art, in the design of major buildings, in the layout of city streets and public spaces, and in the precise placement of obelisks and other important monuments upon the Earth, the viewer is led to perceive an elegant harmonic system linking the human body with the architectural, urban, planetary, solar, and galactic scales.

Ancient Indian Architecture Part II - Cave Architecture in India

12:28
Cave Architecture History & Origin of Cave Architecture The western Deccan region has the early cave temples predominantly Buddhist shrines and monasteries that trace back between 100 BC and 170 AD. Rock-cut Hindu and Buddhist sculptures can be seen in these caves many of which dates back to around the 3rd century BC during the reign of the Maurya Empire (322–187 BCE). Types of Caves Caves in India are usually associated with three different religions, namely Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism and reflect architectural variance in accordance with respective religions. Buddhist Caves Some of the finest examples of cave architecture can be found in the ancient Buddhist caves. A greater chunk of around 1200 surviving cave temples are Buddhist. From 200 BCE to 650 AD the Buddhist monks kept on occupying the earliest Kanheri Caves situated inside the forests of the ‘Sanjay Gandhi National Park’ in Maharashtra, India. Hindu Caves The Hindu caves that are located at different places across India are sort of extensions of Buddhist cave architecture with of course certain alterations in architecture and design suiting the Hindu customs and traditions. While the mandapa hewn out of a rock is a columned hall having two or more compartments meant for the deity, the ratha is chiselled out of a monolithic rock. Jain Caves The Jain caves located in different sites across the Indian subcontinent marked the end of cave architecture. Although it is difficult to trace the earliest phase of Jain cave architecture, it is generally considered to be between 6th century AD and 12th century AD. Major Caves in India Ellora Caves The caves were hewn out of volcanic basalt cliff rock in the Charanandri hills with caves 1 to 12 being Buddhist, 13 to 29 being Hindu and 30 to 34 being Jain caves. One of the most remarkable and imposing cave temples of India is Cave 16 of Ellora, the world’s largest monolithic rock excavation in the shape of a chariot called the Kailasa temple. Dedicated to Lord Shiva this temple commissioned by King Krishna I in the 8th century was built for over 17 years (756-773 CE) and exhibits deities and mythologies from Shaktism and Vaishnanism with the relief panels illustrating the two great Hindu Epics. Ajanta Caves Ajanta Caves are another UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for ancient Buddhist paintings. Ajanta caves are located in the Aurangabad district of the state of Maharashtra, India. Comprising of 29 Buddhist cave monuments, excavated out of rocks, tracing back to the 2nd century BCE to around 480 CE, the site presents rock-cut sculptures and paintings of utmost brilliance. Particularly the wall paintings of caves 1, 2, 16 and 17 form the largest body of ancient wall paintings that still exist in India. Elephanta Caves Situated on the Elephanta Island near Mumbai city in the state of Maharashtra, India, this site comprises of five Hindu caves and two Buddhist caves that trace back to a period between 5th century and 8th century and were excavated out of solid basalt rock. Cave 1 also referred as the Great Cave of Elephanta is the most imposing cave of this site which is famous for its remarkable sculptures that illustrate the gradually developed Brahmanical rock-cut architecture. Karla Caves The Karla Caves also referred as Karla Cells or Karle Caves situated in Karli, in the state of Maharashtra, India, comprise of age-old Buddhist cave shrines excavated out of rocks. These structures trace back to a period from 2nd century BC to 5th century AD with the earliest one considered to be hewn in 160 BC. The main cave of the site houses one of the largest rock-cut chaityas in India that is 45 m in length and 14 m in are the distinct features of the caves. Badami Caves This site is representative of earliest examples of Hindu temples. The monuments are highly decorated with finely etched sculptures, elaborate pillars, carved ceiling panels and ornate brackets. Vibrant sculptures depicting Hindu themes are found in the Hindu cave temples like the sculpture of Nataraja dancing Tandava in Cave 1 and that of Trivikrama in Cave 2. The most remarkably carved cave in the site is Cave 3, the largest in the complex. Significance of Cave Architecture These caves of ancient and medieval ages give us a glance of different architectural styles of different periods and religions. The relics, motifs, murals and sculptures of the caves not only enlighten us with a lot of information of those ancient times giving us an impression of various traditions, customs and lifestyles followed by the inhabitants but also illustrate considerable accomplishment with regard to structural engineering and artistry of those times thus attracting thousands of tourists and architectural enthusiasts round the year.

8 scariest archeological discoveries! Frightening finds which are unbelievable but changed humans history. With very little visibility in the vast network of tunnels, they stumbled across a bizarre object that left them wondering whether their eyes were playing tricks on them. In front of them lay a large dinosaur-like claw, with intact flesh and scaly skin. Curious, the team took it back with them for analysis. The results could not have been more astounding - the mysterious claw belonged to a 3300 year old prehistoric bird known as the upland moa. For some reason the mummified claw had been preserved so well, it appeared as if the creature had only recently died. Otherwise known by its scientific name Megalapteryx didinus, the upland moa was a large flightless bird that reached up to 12 feet in height, and weighed over 500 pounds. Moa birds were once the dominant animals in New Zealand's forest ecosystems, until the arrival of the Maori people who hunted them down to extinction. Scientists have suggested that modern day revival of the species is a viable idea, as their remains contained extractable DNA that could be introduced into chicken embryos. Interest in the subject has been going on for years, and with the advancements in biology and genetics, we may one day get to see a live running moa. 3: The Alien Skulls of Mexico Residents of the small Mexican village of Onavas stumbled upon a shocking discovery while building an irrigation canal. What they found was an ancient burial site, referred to as El Cementerio, containing 25 skeletal remains. The most shocking part was that 13 of the skeletons had abnormally long skulls, unlike any known species on our planet. Five were found with mutilated teeth. The freakish discovery led to early speculations that the bodies were those of extraterrestrial beings, similar to the ones seen in Ridley Scott's popular Alien film series. However, researchers were quick to suggest that the skulls were the result of intentional cranial reshaping. Several ancient Central American cultures had a tradition of forcing their heads into strange shapes. This was done by placing enormous pressure on their skulls since early childhood, for example by using tightly bound cloths or wooden boards 2: The Graveyard of Giant Wombats Wombats might be seen as cute and comical animals, but you might think differently if you come across one that's rhino-sized. In 2012, scientists in Australia unveiled the largest graveyard ever found of enormous ancient mega-wombats called diprotodon. There were around 50 diprotodon remains found, estimated to have weighed an average 2.8 tons each, making them the largest known marsupials to roam the planet. One of the largest and most well preserved specimens was named "Kenny", with a massive 28-inch long jawbone. The creatures are described as pidgeon-toed, and had big kangaroo-like pouches large enough to fit an adult human. The grave is part of a larger fossil deposit in the remote outback of Australia's Queensland state. It is described as a goldmine 1: Giant Humans Genesis chapter 6 tells us, "There were giants in the earth in those days, and afterwards". This verse refers to the Nephilim, a giant race of men who according to the bible, were perished by the Great Flood. Scriptural writings of other religions also include similar tales of giant people who once walked the Earth. Enthusiastic believers advocate that these stories are true, and in recent years many stories of archeological findings of giant men have appeared on the internet. The most famous of these was the story about a giant human skeleton uncovered in the desert during gas exploration in Saudi Arabia. Pictures were included, linked with the Islamic story of the Prophet Hud and the powerful giant tribe of Ad. Similar pictures and stories of biblical giants can be found, such as the alleged discovery of giants by archeologists in Greece. However, none of these claims have been proven, and the scientific community regards them as mere hoax stories accompanied with photo-shopped images. There are however, some real findings of ancient giants, although nowhere as dramatic as the aforementioned stories. In 1890, French anthropologist Georges Vacher de Lapouge found three bone fragments of a human leg in France. The height of the individual - popularly referred to as the "Giant of Castelnau" - is estimated to have been around 3.5 meters (11 ft 6 in). Studies showed that those bones dated back to the Neolithic period, and according to experts either represented a "very tall race" or were the result of "morbid growth."

Le Corbusier's "Toward an Architecture"

01:20:26
Le Corbusier's "Toward an Architecture" October 1, 2009 Published in 1923 by Le Corbusier, Vers une architecture (Toward an Architecture) was based on articles printed in the magazine L'Espirit Nouveau, founded by the architect and the painter Améée Ozenfant in 1920. Its impact was immediate on architects throughout Europe. Le Corbusier's book affected the way his contemporaries considered the relationship between architecture, technology and history, and provoked an unending series of polemics. As new translations appear in many languages, including Arabic, recent interpretation and archival research invite a reconsideration of this influential book's genesis and structure. - See more at: http://nyuad.nyu.edu/en/news-events/abu-dhabi-events/2009/10/le-corbusier.html#sthash.4xQ8K3Ll.dpuf Jean-Louis Cohen Sheldon H.
