10:11
Leandro Ramos - 2013 - http://www.professorramos.com/

How to Install Linux Mint 18 with Windows 10 | Dual Boot Linux and Windows [Easy Way]

11:32
Did you know that you can install Linux Mint and Windows 10 in one system together? This process is called dual booting and this allows you to use more than one operating system in the same computer. You can choose which OS to use at the boot time, hence the term dual boot. In this video tutorial, I have shown you how to dual-boot Linux Mint with Windows 10. I advise having a Windows 10 live USB or recovery with you. Just in case, if something goes wrong in dual booting Linux Mint with Windows, you will have a way to recover. One more thing, if your system came with Windows 8 and you upgraded to Windows 10, you may have to disable secure boot in the bios. If you have any issues in installing Linux Mint with Windows, feel free to drop a comment. Having trouble getting your SD Card to boot up in your Canon DSLR so you can run Magic Lantern? Well if your a Mac OS X or Linux user, you are in luck. In this tutorial I show you how to make that SD Card bootable using the Make Bootable script and have your running Magic Lantern in no time at all. About this tip: The Mac Boot software is a pain to get running. It requires Java, which I have installed, but still does not want to run. I figured if I am having a pain getting this to run, others are likely pulling their hair out as well. The Make Bootable script however can be run on both Linux and Mac OS X. I also found it extremely easy to use, but could require someone with command line experience in BASH. Luckily for everyone here, I do. So I felt this was a great idea for todays Tips & Techniques video. I normally don't try to get to technical in these videos, but this was just to good of information to keep to myself. Parted Magic: Bootable File Recovery / Diagnostics Disk

04:32
This is the fifth in a series covering live cd's. You may also have heard them referred to as rescue disks or bootable disks. Live cd's are very useful to technicians who are working on a computer that will not boot into Windows, or when they are working on a computer that is so badly infected with viruses that a typical antivirus can't remove them effectively. Live cd's are also great for data recovery, password recovery and resets and diagnostics as well. If this video helped you, please like. Subscribe to receive updates on newly released videos. I would suggest downloading the ISO image, burning it to disk, and playing around with the program to learn it's features and capabilities. If you are having trouble or don't know how to burn an ISO to disk, please see my video on Imgburn. Thank you for watching. Have a great day !!! MBR and GPT Partition Tables

06:25
The partition table on a drive determines the structure of the data and this video will look at the MBR and GPT partition tables. Check out http://YouTube.com/ITFreeTraining or http://itfreetraining.com for more of our always free training videos. In some cases the operating system will choose the partition table for you, however having an understanding of the partition tables will help you understand what features each has as well as any compatibility problems that may occur due to the choice of partition table. Download the PDF handout http://ITFreeTraining.com/handouts/se... Partition Tables Before data can be stored on a device like a hard disk, a partition table needs to be created. This partition table defines where the data can be stored on the device. For example, if you had a 3 terabyte hard disk, you could create 2 partition tables. One partition could be 1 terabyte in size while the other could be 2 Terabytes in size. The partition table essentially determines which part of the hard disk can be used for what. There are two different partition types available. These are MBR (Master Boot Record) and GPT (GUID Partition Table). MBR is the older style that offers more compatibility while GPT is newer and offers more features, most notably, it supports larger devices. In some cases, GPT may require particular hardware in order to run. Master Boot Record (MBR) MBR has been around since the first PC's were released. For this reason it should work on all computers, meaning it has great compatibility with existing hardware. MBR is limited to 4 primary partitions. To increase the number of partitions that could be created on a single drive, one of the MBR partitions could be converted into an extended partition. This extended partition contains configuration allowing additional partitions to be created. In DOS days, there could only be 26 partitions on one hard disk: 3 primary partitions and one extended partition that contained 23 additional partitions. This was a limitation due to each drive requiring a drive letter and thus a limit of 26 letters in the alphabet. In later operating systems more than 26 partitions could be created using extended partitions. The biggest limitation of MBR is that it can only use 2 Terabytes of space. If you have a drive bigger than 2 Terabytes, MBR can be used, but any space after 2 Terabytes will not be useable and thus will be wasted. GUID Partition Table (GPT) The GPT partition table supports 128 primary partitions and thus does not require any extended partitions. The main advantage of the partition table is it supports drives in the Zettabyte size. 1 ZB = 1 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 bytes or 10 to power of 21 bytes or 1 billion terabytes. In order to boot an operating system for a GPT partition, you require a hard disk that supports "Unified Extensible Firmware Interface" or UEFI. This was designed to be a replacement for the older system called "Basic Input/Output System" or BIOS. The operating system also needs to support booting. For Windows this means Windows XP and Windows 2003 64 bit editions or above. For Linux most distributions should support both 32bit and 64bit operating systems. It is matter of checking the distribution to ensure it does. All modern Linux distributions should support this. If the hardware or operating system does not support booting, it is possible that the operating system will still be able to read the drive as a data drive. Every Windows operating system including and after Windows Vista and Windows Server 2003 SP1 will support GPT as a data drive. Converting between the two If your hard disk is less than 2 terabytes, use MBR. This will offer you the most compatibility. If you do need to change between the two, most likely GPT to MBR, Windows can convert the drive; however, it will first need to have all the partitions removed thus erasing all the data on the drive. Third-party software is available for Windows which can convert the partition table without losing the data. Otherwise there is Linux software which can perform the conversion. Before converting the partition table, make sure that you back up all data on the drive. See http://YouTube.com/ITFreeTraining or http://itfreetraining.com for our always free training videos. This is only one video from the many free courses available on YouTube. How to Recover Data from Corrupt Harddrive in Linux

Tutorial on how to successfully recover data from a Severely Corrupted hard drive in Ubuntu Linux using Testdisk and Photorec. A “professional” repair shop attempted recovery of data from this Windows Laptop drive, but failed. Using Testdisk in Linux I recovered about 70% of the drive. (Could have been more, but it was crippling my system and running horrifically slow) sudo apt-get install smartmontools sudo apt-get install --no-install-recommends smartmontools Find out drive number with GUI tools, Gparted, or “fdisk -l” sudo smartctl -a /dev/sdx sudo testdisk /dev/sdx Take a backup image if you have enough disk space spare on your system sudo photorec image.dd (or /dev/sdx) find . -type f \( -iname "*.jpg" -o -iname "*.jpeg" -o -iname "*.png" \) -exec cp '{}' /destination/ \; Wallpaper: http://quidsup.net?i=NeonPacman

https://media.ccc.de/v/34c3-9056-bringing_linux_back_to_server_boot_roms_with_nerf_and_heads The NERF and Heads projects bring Linux back to the cloud servers' boot ROMs by replacing nearly all of the vendor firmware with a reproducible built Linux runtime that acts as a fast, flexible, and measured boot loader. It has been years since any modern servers have supported Free Firmware options like LinuxBIOS or coreboot, and as a result server and cloud security has been dependent on unreviewable, closed source, proprietary vendor firmware of questionable quality. With Heads on NERF, we are making it possible to take back control of our systems with Open Source Software from very early in the boot process, helping build a more trustworthy and secure cloud. The NERF project was started by Ron Minnich (author of LinuxBIOS and lead of coreboot at Google) in January 2017 with the goal to bring Linux back to the BIOS by retaining a minimal set of PEI modules for memory controller initialization and replacing the entirety of the server vendor's UEFI DXE firmware with a reproducibly built Linux runtime. It has been ported to a few different manufacturer's servers, demonstrating the general portability of the concept. NERF is fast - less than twenty second boot times, versus multiple minutes. It's flexible - it can make use of any devices, filesystems and protocols that Linux supports. And it's open - users can easily customize the boot scripts, fix issues, build their own runtimes and reflash their firmware with their own keys. The Heads runtime was started by Trammell Hudson (author of Thunderstrike and Magic Lantern) and was presented last year at 33c3. It is a slightly more secure bootloader that uses Linux, the TPM, GPG and kexec to be able to load, measure, verify and execute the real kernel. As part of porting Heads to work with NERF on server platforms, it now includes tools like Keylime to allow severs to remotely attest to user controlled systems that the NERF/Heads firmware matches what they expect, as well as network and iSCSI drivers for diskless compute node servers. In this talk we'll provide an overview of the NERF project, the currently supported server mainboards, and the continued development on the Heads runtime that allows more trust in the servers that make up the cloud. How to clone a HDD to SSD using a live Linux CD

09:38
While there are many commercial products for cloning a hard disk including shrinking the OS partition, this video shows how to do that using a freely available Live Linux OS, which can be booted from CD or a USB stick. Although I use System Rescue CD in this video, this process works with many Live Linux distributions, including Trinity Rescue Kit and Parted Magic. As the partitions to copy must be resized or moved so they copy to within the SSD with a 1:1 clone, I also show how to keep the recovery partition (or other partition) on the original HDD that is outside the SSD's outer boundary. Normally this would result in an unbootable SSD with a 1:1 clone due to the copied partition table having an entry pointing outside the drive's outer boundary. Note: I haven't tried this with a GUID GPT disk, I'd expect it to be a similar process, but involving gdisk instead of fdisk. This video contains all the sequences throughout the clone process, including the first boot after the SSD is installed, the 'Found new hardware' process and what the performance is like straight away. The only sequences that were shortened were the clone stage (took about an hour), a few mouse & keyboard operations in Linux and the chkdsk operation that Gparted triggers on the first boot. The graphic performance is slower than running it on Windows, so I recommend to set the graphic quality to low before logging in. It is ideal for crafting, AH and gathering, if you are too lazy to dual boot into Windows.

How to safely delete Ubuntu or any Linux from a Dual-Boot with Windows 7/8/10

07:30
Link to Minitool Partition Wizard: https://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html In this video i demonstrate the safe way to delete Ubuntu or any operating system that is dual booted along side windows 7. I use a program called Minitool Partition Wizard which is a free software that you can find by searching Google. The wizard displays your drives and partitions a bit like the disk management utility in windows. When you install Linux along side windows, Linux replaces the windows bootloader with one of it's own called 'Grub' Grub displays the Linux OS and your Windows OS and you can choose which OS you want to boot into. When you delete the Linux partitions you also delete Grub so you are left with no bootloader and Windows will fail to boot up. With Minitool Partition Wizard you can rebuild the MBR which will restore the Windows bootloader and allow you to boot back into Windows. I hope this video helped you. If you have any questions give me a shout. Thanks for watching!

systemd, beyond init

53:04
by Lennart Poettering systemd is a system and session manager for Linux, compatible with SysV and LSB init scripts. systemd provides aggressive parallelization capabilities, uses socket and D-Bus activation for starting services, offers on-demand starting of daemons, keeps track of processes using Linux cgroups, supports snapshotting and restoring of the system state, maintains mount and automount points and implements an elaborate transactional dependency-based service control logic. Wow, what a paragraph! In case I lost you half-way: in our presentation I hope to explain in a lot more detail what systemd is really about, and parse with you the paragraph in a way that is hopefully more understandable. Both the Fedora and OpenSUSE distributions (and many others, too) are working on making systemd the default init system in their next releases. Since the init system is a core part of the operating system and systemd a major change that will impact what we consider a Linux system quite a bit this talk should be interesting to all developers, administrators and users alike. FOSDEM (Free and Open Source Development European Meeting) is a European event centered around Free and Open Source software development. It is aimed at developers and all interested in the Free and Open Source news in the world. Its goals are to enable developers to meet and to promote the awareness and use of free and open source software. More info at http://fosdem.org

Windows 7/8/10 Reset Forgotten Password (Linux Method)

06:54
Simple tutorial showing how to reset any Windows 7/8/10 account password using Linux. Reset Windows 7/8/10 Password =============================== The Linux Method You can use any Linux live media for this. But I prefer system rescue disk. After booting, the procedure is same, irrespective of the Linux based media used. Download system rescue disk from http://www.sysresccd.org/ and create a bootable usb using the method mentioned in http://www.sysresccd.org/Sysresccd-manual-en_How_to_install_SystemRescueCd_on_an_USB-stick . You can also follow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iqZuCmM2fg Boot using the USB / CD. Type gdisk -l /dev/sda to find out the existing partitions in your Hard Disk. Mount the partition in which Windows is installed (the one that contains the Windows folder). mount /dev/sda? /mnt (Replace ? with the partition number. In my case, it is /dev/sda2) Change directory to /mnt/Windows/System32/config cd /mnt/Windows/System32/Config Clear out password for your user. chntpw -i SAM Press 1 and hit enter. Enter the hex code for the user you want to change password for. Press 1 and hit enter. Press q and hit enter. Press q and hit enter. Press y and hit enter. After you overwrite the Security Account Manager (SAM) Hive, change directory to /root Type cd and press enter. Unmount the Windows partition mounted on /mnt. umount /mnt Type reboot and hit enter. Now, remove the USB/CD and boot into Windows. You will be able to sign in without any password. In case of Windows 10, press ctrl + alt + del and set account password. In case of Windows 7/8, go to Control Panel/PC Settings to set account password. Done! :D That is all folks! :D :) Music: Waltz of the Flowers (by Tchaikovsky) Wanna support me?
