Part 45 Customize display and edit templates in asp net mvc

14:07
In this video, we will discuss customizing datetime ediotr template. Please watch Part 44, before proceeding. We will be using the same example, that we worked with in Part 44. At the moment, when you navigate to localhost/MVCDemo/Home/Edit/1, notice that, a textbox control is used as the editing interface. Notice that, for HireDate, users have to type in the date. Dates has got different formats. For example, MM/DD/YYYY or DD/MM/YY etc. So, different users may type it differently. Also, from a user experience, it is better to display a DateTime picker from which the user can simply select the date. The built-in DateTime editor template used by MVC simply displays a textbox for editing Dates. So, let's customize the DateTime editor template, to use jQuery calendar. The following is the convention used by MVC to find the customized templates. 1. The customized display templates must be in a sub-folder that is named - DisplayTemplates. Editor templates must be in a sub-folder that is named - EditorTemplates. 2. These sub-folders can live in "Shared" folder, or a specific views folder. If these folders are present in the Shared folder, then the templates are available for all the views. If they are in a specific views folder, then, they are available only for that set of views. 3. The name of the template must match the name of the type. For example, as we are customizing DateTime template, the name of the template in this case has to be DateTime.ascx Adding a Custom DateTime Editor template Step 1: If "Shared" folder does not already exists in your project, right click on the project in solution explorer and add it. Step 2: Right click on the "Shared" folder, and "EditorTemplates" folder. Step 3: Right click on "EditorTemplates" folder and add a view with name = DateTime Step 4: Copy and paste the following code in DateTime.cshtml partial view @model DateTime? @Html.TextBox("", (Model.HasValue ? Model.Value.ToString("dd/MM/yyyy") : string.Empty), new { @class = "date" }) Note: Please refer to the following MSDN articel for all the DateTime format strings http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/8kb3ddd4.aspx Step 5: Copy and paste Edit.cshtml view code from my blog using the link below. http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2013/06/part-45-customize-display-and-edit.html Note: Please refer to the following jQuery link for DateTime format strings http://jqueryui.com/resources/demos/datepicker/date-formats.html The following jQuery scripts and css files are required for jQuery DateTime picker control. However, these files may change depending on the version of jQuery you are working with. Scripts/jquery-1.7.1.min.js Scripts/jquery-ui-1.8.20.min.js Content/Site.css Content/themes/base/jquery.ui.all.css Text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2013/06/part-45-customize-display-and-edit.html Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2013/09/part-45-customize-display-and-edit.html All ASP .NET MVC Text Articles http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/aspnet-mvc-tutorial-for-beginners.html All ASP .NET MVC Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/aspnet-mvc-slides.html All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in English https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?view=1&sort=dd All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in Arabic https://www.youtube.com/c/KudvenkatArabic/playlists

jQuery video tutorial 10 - jQuery CSS Method

11:07
jQuery CSS() Method: The jQuery CSS() method is used to set one or more CSS style(s) to the selected HTML element(s). It is also used to get the value of a CSS style applied to the selected HTML element(s). Setting the single CSS style or property: Syntax: $(selector).css(“css-property”,”value”); It helps us to select any html element(s) targeted by the given selector and apply the given CSS property. Ex: $(“#firstp”).css(“background-color”,”red”); It selects any html element(s) whose id attribute value is set to firstp and applies the CSS property background color to red . Setting multiple CSS styles or properties: Syntax: $(selector).css({“css-property1”:”value1”,” css-property2”:”value2”,….}); It helps us to select any html element(s) targeted by the given selector and apply the given set of CSS properties. Ex: $(“#firstp”).css({“background-color”:”green”,”color”:”white”}); It selects any html element(s) whose id attribute value is set to firstp and applies the CSS properties background color green and text color white . Getting the value of a single CSS style or property: Syntax: $(selector).css(“css property”); It helps us to select any html element(s) targeted by the given selector and return the value of a given CSS property. Ex: alert($(“#firstp”).css(“background-color”)); It selects any html element(s) whose id attribute value is set to firstp and returns the value of background-color CSS property. The current implementation of the CSS() method in jQuery allows us to set multiple CSS properties to the selected HTML element(s), but only allows us to get one CSS property at a time. ======================================================== Follow the link for next video: https://youtu.be/HpRdrhCq158 Follow the link for previous video: https://youtu.be/UvMuWgBzIHc ========= For more benefits & Be up to date =================== Subscribe to the channel: https://www.youtube.com/chidrestechtu... In this jQuery Tutorial, we're going to be building a jQuery Image Slider Widget. There are lots of great jQuery slider plugins out there that have way more features and real-world testing, but this lesson on building one will help you understand jQuery programming a lot. We'll also introduce the concept of "DOM caching" - searching the DOM as little as we possibly can and then saving the results for quick-access later. jQuery add event handler to dynamically created element

09:15
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?sort=dd&view=1 Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/04/jquery-add-event-handler-to-dynamically.html In this video we will discuss, how to add event handlers to dynamically created elements. Let us understand this with an example. The following example, allows us to dynamically create new list item (li), attach a click event handler and add it to the unordered list (ul). This happens when you click "Add a New List Item" button. The problem with this approach is that we are binding a click event handler to every list item. This means if you have 500 list items, then there will be 500 event handlers in the memory and this may negatively affect the performance of your application. <html> <head> <title></title> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('li').on('click', function () { $(this).fadeOut(500); }); $('#btnAdd').on('click', function () { var newListItem = $('<li>New List Item</li>').on('click', function () { $(this).fadeOut(500); }); $('ul').append(newListItem); }); }); </script> </head> <body style="font-family:Arial"> <input id="btnAdd" type="button" value="Add a New List Item" /> <ul> <li>List Item</li> <li>List Item</li> </ul> </body> </html> A better way of doing the same from a performance standpoint is shown below. In this example, the click event handler is attached to the listitem (li) parent element (ul). Even if you have 500 list items, there is only one click event handler in memory. So how does this work 1. When you click on a list item (li), the event gets bubbled up to its parent (ul) as the list item (li) does not have an event handler 2. The bubbled event is handled by the the parent (ul) element, as it has a click event handler. 3. When a new list item is added dynamicaly, you don't have to add the click event handler to it. Since the newly created list item (li) is added to the same parent element (ul), the click event of this list item also gets bubbled upto the same parent and will be handled by it. <html> <head> <title></title> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('ul').on('click', 'li', function () { $(this).fadeOut(500); }); $('#btnAdd').on('click', function () { $('ul').append('<li>New List Item</li>'); }); }); </script> </head> <body style="font-family:Arial"> <input id="btnAdd" type="button" value="Add a New List Item" /> <ul> <li>List Item</li> <li>List Item</li> </ul> </body> </html>

hide paragraph in html using Jquery

03:01
This Video shows how to create a simple hide application in ASP.NET using jQuery. Please check code in comment section. The .hide() and .show() methods, without any parameters can be like smart shorthand methods for .css('display', 'string'), where 'string' is the appropriate display value. The effect, as might be expected, is that the matched set of elements will be immediately hidden or shown without animation. The .hide() method sets the inline style attribute of the matched set of elements to display: none. Even smart part here is that it remembers the value of the display property typically blocks or inline before it was changed to none. And the .show() method restores display properties of the matched set of elements to whatever they initially were before "display: none" was applied.

Custom Alert Box Programming JavaScript CSS HTML Tutorial

12:04
Lesson Code: http://www.developphp.com/video/JavaScript/Custom-Alert-Box-Programming-Tutorial JavaScript comes equipped with stock dialog boxes that work well enough for alerting, confirming, and prompting for values. But most of the top interactive websites create their own custom dialog windows. Creating these windows yourself gives you more control over the interaction with the user, and allows you to customize every single aspect of the dialog window. In this first video lesson we will cover creating a dynamic custom alert box dialog from scratch. In the two following videos we will cover confirm and prompt boxes.

Determinate progress bar - Use when the actual status can be accurately calculated 2. Indeterminate progress bar - Use to provide user feedback when the actual status cannot be calculated To get a determinate progress bar, set the value option of the progressbar() function to an integer value between 0 and the max. $('#progressbar').progressbar({ value : 65 }); To get an indeterminate progress bar, set the value option of the progressbar() function to false (boolean) $('#progressbar').progressbar({ value : false }); Get value for jQuery progressbar from a select element HTML Select Percentage : <select id="ddlPercentage"> <option value="10">10</option> <option value="20">20</option> <option value="30">30</option> <option value="40">40</option> <option value="50">50</option> <option value="60">60</option> <option value="70">70</option> <option value="80">80</option> <option value="90">90</option> <option value="100">100</option> </select> <input type="button" id="btn" value="Set Value" /> <br /><br /> <div id="progressbar"></div> jQuery $(document).ready(function () { var progressbarDiv = $('#progressbar'); progressbarDiv.progressbar(); $('#btn').click(function () { progressbarDiv.progressbar({ value: parseInt($('#ddlPercentage').val()) }); }); }); Display jQuery progress bar value HTML Select Percentage : <select id="ddlPercentage"> <option value="10">10</option> <option value="20">20</option> <option value="30">30</option> <option value="40">40</option> <option value="50">50</option> <option value="60">60</option> <option value="70">70</option> <option value="80">80</option> <option value="90">90</option> <option value="100">100</option> </select> <input type="button" id="btn" value="Set Value" /> <br /> <br /> <div id="progressbar" style="position:relative"> <span style="position:absolute; left:50%; top:20%" id="progressBar-label"> </span> </div> jQuery $(document).ready(function () { var progressbarDiv = $('#progressbar'); progressbarDiv.progressbar(); $('#btn').click(function () { progressbarDiv.progressbar({ value: parseInt($('#ddlPercentage').val()), change: function () { $('#progressBar-label').text(progressbarDiv.progressbar('value') + '%'); } }); }); });

Drupal 7 Sweaver Module: Change your theme style with no CSS code

16:43
Drupal 7 Sweaver Module: Change your theme style with no CSS code Daily Dose of Drupal episode 185 Video on Code Karate website - http://codekarate.com/daily-dose-of-drupal/drupal-7-sweaver-module-change-your-theme-style-no-css-code The Drupal 7 Sweaver module makes it easy to change the style of your Drupal theme without having to write any CSS code or dig through any template files. The Sweaver module provides a simple to use designer toolbar that sits at the bottom of the page and allows you to instantly change the look of your Drupal theme. The interface itself is not perfect, there are a few bugs with the toolbar, however it's still incredibly useful. You can change fonts, borders, spacing, backgrounds and much more. Plus you can even add your own CSS properties to extend the module to do exactly what you need it too. You can also easily save and load different saved styles making it easy to change the entire look of your site at a moments notice. If you are already an experienced Drupal themer, this module is probably not for you. However if you are just getting started with Drupal or don't know much about CSS, subthemes, or theme template files, this module might save you a lot of time. Here are the basic steps for using this module: 1. Install and enable the Drupal 7 Sweaver module 2. Use the style tab of the Sweaver design toolbar at the bottom of the page to change your theme style without CSS. You will need to click the element on the page that you want to style. This will turn on the style options for you to change. You can configure the font, borders, padding, margin, background, width/height, and much more. You can also upload images using the images tab on the Sweaver toolbar. 3. Once your style is the way you like it, you can click the Save tab to save your design. You can also choose to publish it to your Drupal site. This will allow all users to see your design (Note: you may need to clear the cache for anonymous users to see your design because of caching). 4. You can save and load multiple designs using the Drupal Sweaver module So check out the module and let me know what you think. I would always recommend going the Theme route if you know what you are doing, however this is still an option for those who want to stay as far away from code as possible. Happy designing... no... happy Sweavering!!! jQuery each function

15:38
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?sort=dd&view=1 Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/04/jquery-each-function.html In this video we will discuss 1. Use of jQuery each function 2. How to exit from each function in jQuery 3. Implicit iteration in jQuery 4. Performance considerations when using jquery each function jQuery each function is used to iterate over the items in a collection. For each item in the collection the anonymous function is called. The index of the element and the element itself are passed to the anonymous function. $('li').each(function (index, element) { alert(index + ' : ' + $(element).text()); }); To refer to the current element that we are iterating over you can also use this keyword. $('li').each(function (index) { alert(index + ' : ' + $(this).text()); }); If you don't care about the index and just need the text of the list item, then you can get rid of the index parameter $('li').each(function () { alert($(this).text()); }); Replace < with LESSTHAN symbol and > with GREATERTHAN symbol How to exit from each function in jQuery : To exit from each function, return false. <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('li').each(function () { if ($(this).text() == 'UK') { return false; } alert($(this).text()); }); }); </script> Implicit iteration in jQuery : The $('li') selector returns all list item elements. Notice that we are calling the css() jquery function on the jquery collection itself. In this case, css() method implicitly iterates over each element in the entire collection. <html> <head> <title></title> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('li').css('color', 'red'); }); </script> </head> <body style="font-family:Arial"> <ul> <li>US</li> <li>India</li> <li>UK</li> <li>Canada</li> <li>Australia</li> </ul> </body> </html> There is no need to explicitly iterate over each element in the collection. Most jQuery methods implicitly iterate over the entire collection. <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('li').each(function () { $(this).css('color', 'red'); }); }); </script> Performance considerations when using jquery each function <html> <head> <title></title> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('li').each(function () { $('#divResult').html($('#divResult').html() + '<br/>' + $(this).text()) }); }); </script> </head> <body style="font-family:Arial"> <ul> <li>US</li> <li>India</li> <li>UK</li> <li>Canada</li> <li>Australia</li> </ul> <div id="divResult"></div> </body> </html> From a performance standpoint, there are 2 problems with the above code. 1. jQuery needs to search the DOM for div element with id = divResult, for each list item in the collection. Since there are 5 list items, jquery searches the DOM 5 times for the same div element with id = divResult. The performance of the above code can be improved by caching the divResult element. 2. The DOM element (div element with id = divResult) is being updated on each iteration. Again this is bad for performance. To improve the performance build a string variable with the required data on each iteration of the loop. Once the loop has completed, update the DOM element with the value that is present in the string varibale. This will ensure that the DOM element is updated only once and this is much better for performance. The following is much better from a performance standpoint. <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { var result = ''; $('li').each(function () { result += '<br/>' + $(this).text(); }); $('#divResult').html(result); }); </script>

jQuery tabs in asp net

16:07
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?sort=dd&view=1 Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/06/jquery-tabs-in-aspnet.html In this video we will discuss how to use jQuery tabs in an ASP.NET web forms application. jQuery tabs widget is a single content area with multiple panels, each associated with a header in a list. This is similar to Accordion widget, which we discussed in Part 74 and 75. a) Tabs must be in either an ordered or unordered list b) Each tab "title" must be inside of a list item and wrapped by an anchor element with an href attribute c) Each tab panel may be any valid element but it must have an id which corresponds to the hash in the anchor of the associated tab. Steps to retrieve data from a database table and present it using jQuery accordian in an asp.net webforms application. We will use the country webservice that we worked with in the previous video session. We want to retrieve data from the following database table tblEmployee and display it using jQuery tabs widget in an asp.net web forms application Add a WebForm to the project. Copy and paste the following code. Notice that we are using 2 repeater controls to produce the HTML that the jQuery tabs widget expects. <%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="WebForm1.aspx.cs" Inherits="Demo.WebForm1" %> <!DOCTYPE html> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head runat="server"> <title></title> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script src="jquery-ui.js"></script> <link href="jquery-ui.css" rel="stylesheet" /> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('#tabs').tabs({ collapsible: true, active: 1, event: 'mouseover' }); }); </script> </head> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <div id="tabs" style="width: 600px"> <ul> <asp:Repeater ID="Repeater1" runat="server"> <ItemTemplate> <li> <a href="#C_<%#Eval("ID")%>"><%#Eval("Name") %> </a> </li> </ItemTemplate> </asp:Repeater> </ul> <asp:Repeater ID="Repeater2" runat="server"> <ItemTemplate> <div id="C_<%#Eval("ID")%>"> <%#Eval("CountryDescription")%> </div> </ItemTemplate> </asp:Repeater> </div> </form> </body> </html> Copy and paste the following code in the code-behind file using System; namespace Demo { public partial class WebForm1 : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { Services.CountryServiceSoapClient client = new Services.CountryServiceSoapClient(); Services.Country[] countries = client.GetCountries(); Repeater1.DataSource = countries; Repeater1.DataBind(); Repeater2.DataSource = countries; Repeater2.DataBind(); } } } jQuery Tabs Widget Options collapsible - By default, atleast one panel need to be active. If you want to collapse all the panels, including the one that is active, set this option to true. active - This option can be set to a boolean value or integer. Setting active to false will collapse all panels. This requires the collapsible option to be true. An Integer value will make the corresponding panel active. Panels use zero-based index. event - The type of event that the tabs should react to in order to activate the tab. The default is "click". To activate on hover, use "mouseover".
