Leslie Morgan Steiner was in "crazy love" -- that is, madly in love with a man who routinely abused her and threatened her life. Steiner tells the dark story of her relationship, correcting misconceptions many people hold about victims of domestic violence, and explaining how we can all help break the silence. [Anchor Lead] Violence among romantic partners is growing more serious in Korea. More than 8,000 people were arrested for violently abusing their partner last year alone. There are urgent calls for fundamental measures to end the abuse and subsequent damage. [Pkg] A strapping young man begins to beat up a woman. He kicks her and throws her against the wall to beat her with his fist. The woman falls to the ground, but the man does not stop attacking her. She was so beaten up that she couldn't even stand. Passers-by tried to stop him but it was no use. Several husky men got in a physical altercation with the man and barely got to restrain him. The man disappeared for a while. Then he came back in a truck and charged toward the fleeing woman. The man was in a romantic relationship with the victim. [Soundbite] (Police Officer(Voice Modified)) : "The two were dating since a year ago. The man claims that he has been stressed out by the woman's behavior." In the last year alone more than 8,000 people were arrested by the police for dating violence. But it's highly likely that there are more victims of dating abuse out there who haven't reported the crime. [Soundbite] Song Ran-hee(Secretary General, Korea Women's Hot Line) : "Female victims worry the most about revenge. They worry whether it is a reportable crime, whether it's serious enough to report, or whether their reports would be taken seriously." A special bill to punish dating abusers was tabled in February of last year, and it was eventually scrapped because the bill failed to get approved during the parliamentary session.

Dating Violence is a serious issue in dating relationships not only between adults; but teens also. The victims in the situation aren't the only ones affected; friends and family of the victim AND the abuser are affected as well. If you know of friend or family member that is in a potentially harmful relationship, let someone know. If you are in a potentially harmful relationship or situation, dial 1-800-799-7233 for the National Dating Violence Hotline, or visit www.thehotline.org. We made this video using an IPhone, and everything in this video was completely made from our own ideas. We hope you enjoy, and share to create awareness of harmful/potentially harmful relationships around you. You could even save a life.

This public service announcement was created by teenagers involved in the Violence Intervention Project (VIP), a peer education co-project of the Worcester Youth Center (worcesteryouthcenter.org/) and the Center for Nonviolent Solutions (nonviolentsolutions.org). The students in VIP focused on educating peers about violence prevention, conflict transformation, peer mediation, healthy body image, and healthy friendships and relationships. This PSA was developed by the students, together with the adult facilitators, to tell the true story of one brave young woman who survived teen dating violence, to send the message that love should not mean violence or control, to describe how healthy love is about sharing and equality, and to provide information on teen dating violence hotlines and websites. One of the adult co-facilitators of the Violence Intervention Project was Sam Diener. If you or anyone you know is suffering from teen dating violence, and/or for more information about creating safe, healthy relationships, please call 800-799-7233 or visit thehotline.org, breakthecycle.org, or loveisrespect.org. Neither the hotline or the teen dating violence websites listed in this paragraph were involved in the production of this PSA. We are grateful for all the work these organizations do to increase the peace and share the love. October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, and the Lac du Flambeau Domestic Abuse Program is encouraging people to engage in discussions about domestic violence and dating violence - and the negative, long-term impact violence has on victims. The program is hoping that one way to begin awareness to the issue is through a video project they have recently completed. The video, “No to Domestic and Dating Violence”, was the result of a collaboration between the Domestic Abuse Program, the Benase Equay Wakaigan (Thunderbird Woman House), the Lac du Flambeau Tribal Police and the Lac du Flambeau Public School. You may view the video on the Tribe’s YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/ldftribe. Staff and students participated in the project through developing themed posters and by appearing in the video. LdF Domestic Abuse Young Woman’s Advocate Bagwajikwe Madosh says domestic violence transcends all races, ages and socio-economic status. “Domestic violence is something that happens every day, in every community. It’s one of the best kept secrets in every community,” says Madosh. In addition to the staff and students who worked on the project, Native Actress Delanna Studi also appears with students in the video. Studi, who has starred in films such as “Skins”, “Edge of America”, “The Only Good Indian” and “Timberwolf”, participated in support of the project. As an advocate for Native Youth issues, Studi has toured the country extensively to raise awareness of issues such as dating violence, racial stereotyping and equality for Native Americans in the motion picture industry. Studi is the niece of Native Actor Wes Studi, and chairs the Screen Actors Guild’s President’s National Task Force for American Indians. Madosh believes the more people start to talk about domestic violence, the easier it is for those suffering from abuse to come forward to seek help. “Many people, especially young women, have experienced violence and aren’t even aware they were victimized,” said Madosh. “It is important that we begin the dialogue with our children and young people, to help them understand violence is not healthy,” said Madosh. “Speak up and speak out against it. Domestic violence takes many forms and it is never acceptable,” she added. The Lac du Flambeau Domestic Abuse Program and Benase Equay Wakaigan (Thunder Bird Woman House) continue to promote healthy relationships and lifestyles. If you or someone you know is suffering from domestic abuse, dating violence, or need help leaving an abusive relationship, please call (715) 588-7660. The line and shelter are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Abusive relationships don't start out that way--not at all--you think he's THE ONE and all you want is to be with him. Many women say the beginning romance was the most powerful love experience of their lives--and then everything CHANGED. If it happened once, it will happen again, until you learn the warning signs and heal whatever it was in you that told a predator you were prey. Not one woman in a thousand possesses this knowledge. For protection purposes, names of the actors will not be given online, but recognition will be considered in it's airing on CVTV. NTDVPW, is an event where S.A.D.D. raises awarness in the seriousness of Domestic violence in young adults and tries it's best to push it's numbers down, if not elimate it. We understand that we do not have the ability to end such a relationship, but we want to everyone to know that the victim/loved one can, and all that it takes is a single phone call. If you or any one you know is suspected to be involved in a violent relationship, please call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233), or visit the website at http://www.ndvh.org/. The National Domestic Violence Hotline has been a succesfull domestic victim help organization since 1996 and has answered more than 2 million calls, but domestic abuse is still one of the most unreported crimes according to the U.S. Department of Justice, Department of Justice Statistics. 'Is this the message that we should pass down to our youth?' — One of the first Native American congresswomen Deb Haaland refuses to let the violence against Indigenous women be overlooked any longer. » Subscribe to NowThis: http://go.nowth.is/News_Subscribe In US news, the first Indigenous congresswoman Rep. Deb Haaland called for more resources to end violence against Indigenous women. Debra Haaland, (D-NM) Congresswoman: 'In 2016 it was reported that 8 in 10 Native women had survived serious violence during their lifetimes. 50% have suffered sexual violence and 90 percent of these cases have involved a non-native perpetrator. I appreciate the recent work that tribal governments have done to shed light on the silent crisis of gender violence and violence against women, that have gone overlooked in Indian country for far too long. Most of all I thank the Native women who have endured generations of systematic violence, who are ten times more likely to be murdered, and 4 times more likely to be sexually assaulted when compared to the national average. Further exacerbating this issue the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights ‘Broken Promises’ report states that crime and victimization in Indian country is caused by the systematic underfunding of tribal law enforcement and criminal justice systems coupled with pre existing barriers. In communities with the nation's highest rates of crime that are comparable to dense urban cities like Detroit and Los Angeles. I'm building on legislation like Savannah's act and Vanua to provide our women with programmatic resources that will expand to urban areas where many Native Americans are frequently overlooked in this silent crisis. My work will also provide resources to families of missing women. Part of of redefining who we are starts at home. Last week at the University of New Mexico, the first major public discussion of Pueblo feminism took place during the 20th Annual American Indian Studies Association conference. During a panel, students described the presence of women and two spirit people in modern tribal governance. One of the female students said quote, I am never going to be a governor or hold a leadership position in my tribe, because these are only positions reserved for males. This is probably why Deb Haaland ran for Congress, because she knew she couldn't have political power within our existing system, unquote. I asked, is this the message that we should pass down to our youth? Some tribes continue to practice a European tradition of patriarchal governments that refuse to allow women a seat at the table. As another one of these bright young women said, 'we are survivors of colonialism, but we don't have to continue to live in it.' To the students who organized this discussion to shed light on the issue. Thank you for your bravery and your strength. Your leadership is what keeps me moving forward. I see you, and I hear you.' #DebHaaland #NativeAmerican #IndigenousWomen #Indigenous Connect with NowThis » Like us on Facebook: http://go.nowth.is/News_Facebook » Tweet us on Twitter: http://go.nowth.is/News_Twitter » Follow us on Instagram: http://go.nowth.is/News_Instagram » Find us on Snapchat Discover: http://go.nowth.is/News_Snapchat NowThis is your premier news outlet providing you with all the videos you need to stay up to date on all the latest in trending news.
