19 INCREDIBLY Colorful Sea Creatures

09:30
From Nemo, the clownfish, to the beautiful and elusive Blue Sea Slug, these are 19 INCREDIBLY Colorful Sea Creatures ! 8. Blue Tang -- Undersea creatures seem to look really cool in blue … and this one is no exception. The Blue Tang shows off some amazing blue coloration complemented by bold black markings. It almost sounds like a fashion shows, right? These fish are usually found in Indo-Pacific waters and are actually bright yellow when they’re younger. The blue and black colors show up at their final phase of development. 7. Coral -- Is that a brain at the bottom of the ocean? No … but it is a brain coral … and just an example of the wide ranging variety of living coral and coral reefs, some of which are thought to have started growing over 50 million years ago. Contrary to some beliefs, coral are animals, not plants … they’re actually related to anemones and jellyfish. The reefs formed by coral provide housing for thousands of marine species, giving them a place to find food, reproduce, and keep them safe until they’re mature enough to venture into the deeper ocean. Did you know coral reef plants and animals have proven important to the development of new medicines to treat cancer, Alzheimer's and heart disease? But even with all those advantages, human activity is threatening almost 60 percent of the world’s coral reefs. 6. Flower Hat Jellyfish -- This rare species of jellyfish is a rare species usually found in the waters of southern japan, Argentina and Brazil. It can grow to a half-foot in diameter, and is easily recognizable by its translucent bell, which is pinstriped with opaque bands. Those coiling tentacles adhere to the rim while not in use. Like many pretty looking things, this jelly carries a sting … but even though it’s painful, it’s non-lethal to humans … the worst you’d get is a rash. 5. Blue Sea Slug -- We couldn’t find a lot of information on this critter. From what we’ve seen, it’s often identified as a Blue Sea Slug … but that sounds like a pedestrian name for such a colorful creature. You can see the brilliant blue coloration in this photo … the animal almost looks like an alien life form with the two antennae sticking up. We’re guessing it might be a Nudibranch (new-di-brank). Those mollusks are noted for their striking colors, and there are more than 2,300 validated species scattered about the world. Can you confirm that? Let us know in the comments! 4. Mantis Shrimp -- They’re one of the most colorful forms of marine life, but don’t be fooled. They’re also known as ferocious undersea predators that possess, pound for pound, one of the most powerful punches on the planet. Punching with speed equal to a .22 caliber bullet, the Mantis Shrimp has not only broken shells of its prey … it’s also broken through aquarium glass. Punching at that velocity makes water vaporize and explode with a sharp bang, a flash of light and extremely high heat, all of which is felt by the victim as an additional blast. Not bad for an animal that averages less than four inches long. 3. Juvenile Emperor Angelfish -- Their coloration will change with age … but while they’re young, they exhibit these amazing displays of swirling dark blue, white and electric blue. It almost look hypnotic, right? Well, the fish keeps these distinct patterns until it reaches maturity, which usually takes around 4 years. Then the fish develops blue and yellow stripes, and black shading around its eyes. 2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphiprioninae Clownfish -- Did you recognize them from “Finding Nemo”? Known as one of the most brightly colored fish in the world, their bodies have distinctive white striping with colors that can vary from red, orange or yellow. They’re also known as anemone fishes, because of their mutually beneficial relationship with sea anemones. The toxic tentacles of the anemones protect clownfish from predators. And the fast movement of the fishes helps anemones find food and increase circulation. 1. The Mandarinfish -- Also known as the “Mandarin Dragonet” it swims in the Pacific reefs … but it’s less than 3 inches long so it can be difficult to see in the wild. As you might guess, this fish is highly sought after in the aquarium trade … but they’re considered extremely difficult to their strict eating habits. Some people think the Mandarinfish might be the most beautiful fish in the world … would you agree? to Epic Wildlife http://goo.gl/6rzs5u Let's Connect -- http://www.epicadamwildlife.com/ -- http://www.facebook.com/epicadamwildlife -- http://www.twitter.com/epicwildlife -- http://gplus.to/epicwildlife

Strangely Beautiful Deep Sea Creatures

04:25
The term deep sea creature refers to organisms that live below the photic zone of the ocean. These creatures must survive in extremely harsh conditions, such as hundreds of atmospheres of pressure, small amounts of oxygen, very little food, no sunlight, and constant, extreme cold. Most creatures have to depend on food floating down from above. These creatures live in very harsh environments such as the abyssal or hadal zones, which, being thousands of meters below the surface, are almost completely devoid of light. The water is very cold (between 3 and 10 degrees Celsius, or 37 and 50 degrees Fahrenheit), and has low oxygen levels. Due to the depth, the pressure is between 20 and 1,000 atmospheres. Creatures that live thousands of feet deep in the ocean have adapted to the high pressure, lack of light, and other factors. Truly amazing!

In order of appearance: the giant comb jelly (Aulacoctena), which spends its life floating around capturing small animals with two sticky tentacles; the abyssal sea slug (Bathydoris aioca), which extracts oxygen from the water with the round structures on its surface; the deep-sea comb jelly (Beroe abyssicola), an unassuming carnivore; the predatory tunicate (sea squirt, Megalodicopia hians), capable of entrapping small crustaceans; the blob sculpin (Psychrolutes phrictus), an odd egg-brooding fish; the cute-as-a-button, web-armed dumbo octopus (Opisthoteuthis); the giant sea slug (Tritonia) that eats sea pens and corals; the sea pig (sea cucumber, Scotoplanes globosa), which feeds on deep-sea mud; the decorator crab (Loxorhynchus crispatus), which covers itself with sponges in hopes that it can’t be seen! Video producer: Linda Kuhnz Music: This music was originally composed by Danny Elfman for "Edward Scissorhands" and was performed and recorded by Peter Modin in 1995.

18 Exquisite Deep Sea Animals

07:17
Which of these exquisite sea animals did you find the most intriguing? Let us know in the comments below and subscribe to our channel for more informative videos just like this – thanks for watching! 12 - Be your own kind of beautiful… A popular fish in aquariums, this is a snakeskin discuss. There are many different types of these fish, some with distinctive blue over a reddish skin, and some with leopard type markings and even Albino Skin markings. You find them in certain parts of the Amazon, and is carnivorous. 11 - Force of Nature… This is Marrus Orthocanna, which is a type of siphonophore found mainly in the Arctic, but you can also find them in other deep, very cold waters. They are made up of an intricate arrangement of zooids, and there are 170 different species of them. You can see their brightly coloured digestive system, and many glow green or blue when disturbed. They use their tentacles to catch small prey. 10 - Too good to eat… This beautiful shrimp is called the Mantis shrimp, and these guys are powerful predators. Many of the colourful shrimp are kept in tanks, and some have been known to break the glass! There are 400 different species, and some have grown as big as 18-inches. They are pretty common, but not very well understood – because they are very shy, and tend to hide in burrows and holes – making studying them difficult. 9 - The Eye is all seeing… The Atolla jellyfish is very unusual looking, and you find them around the world. It has 20 medium tentacles and then a long trailing one, which is thought to help it catch prey. They are bioluminescent, and reach 6-inches in diameter. When this jellyfish is under attack – it flashes bright blue, causing the predator to either go away or assume it’s not as tasty as it initially looked. 8 – Beauty is skin deep Native to the Indian and Pacific Oceans, the young emperor angel fish is certainly a beaut. You find the along reefs, in depths of between 1-100metres, and they feed off the dead skin of older fish and parasites. As juveniles, they have this electric blue colouring, and from 4 years up they get black shading around the eyes and yellow stripes. 7 - A most unique specimen… This is free swimming sea cucumber, also known as the Pink Sea Through Cucumber. It’s quite unusual, as it is able leave the bottom of the sea floor – which is not usual for sea cucumbers. You find them at depths of 8200 feet, and it was discovered in a remote part of the western Pacific Ocean. 6 - A little Greek mythology… This is the Slithering Sea Star, and many refer to it as Gorgon’s head, because it sort of looks like the freaky dreadlocked hair that Medusa had. You find them in colder waters, and they have an endoskeleton that is covered with a layer of skin – which gives it a rubbery appearance. The spines have tiny look hooks, which holds the prey. 5 - At a snail’s pace… This is a flamingo tongue snail, common to the warmer waters of the western Atlantic Ocean. It’s only when these snails are alive that they display their beautiful markings. Those colours are not actually in the shell, but rather in the mantle tissue that covers the shell. They can pull the covering back to expose their shell when attacked. They feed on toxic sea fans, incorporates the venom making the snail toxic too. 4 - The Earth laughs in flowers… So what was the earth doing when it created the Fatal Flower? This deadly flower paralyzes its prey, and the poison is stored in the tiny little fingers on the flower. They begin life as larvae, find a spot to embed into the ocean floor, and even after its embedded in, can still walk to a new spot using its “hands”. Generally found in Norway, and can reach 3 inches in length. 3 - Pucker Up… This is definitely an unusual specimen, the red-lipped batfish is found around the Galapagos Islands. They have very bright red lips, and are not the best of swimmers. They tend to use their pectoral fins, to almost walk along the ocean floor. They have an appendage on their head, which they use to attract their prey. The reason for the bright red lips is unclear, although its suggested it’s for species recognition whilst spawning. 2 - Nothing to hide… This incredible translucent shrimp was caught by fishermen in New Zealand. It moves in the water by contracting its gelatinous body, basically pumping water through to create movement. They feed on plankton, and the see through body is believed to ensure predators don’t spot it in the water. 1 - The Butterfly Effect… The Sea butterfly is a very small mollusk who lives inside a very dark shell. It uses its ears almost like wings, and uses secreted mucous to catch things like algae and bacteria. Some call is the Sea Devil because of the intense darkness of the shell.

Australia's Great Barrier Reef | beautiful underwater nature | Scuba Diving the Ribbon Reefs HD

04:43
The Ribbon Reefs are a string of ten large reefs that together form the outer edge of Australia's Great Barrier Reef. One feature of the Ribbons is that they serve to shelter the inner reef from big storm damage. The Ribbon Reefs are home to some of the GBR's most popular dive sites. "Steve's Bommie", "Lighthouse Bommie" and "Cod Hole" are among the best known. But there are also other more recently discovered sites that were real standouts on our recent expedition (June 2011). "Acropolis" is one of the sites that is new to me. It boasts the most perfect fields of Acropora coral I have ever seen. Table corals that are 12' / 3.6m in diameter are common here. Uninterrupted fields of staghorn corals extend beyond the 100' / 30m visibility in all directions. Coral cover is close to 100% on this reef. Such coral density is getting rare enough these days... but considering this whole region recently slept through Cyclone Yasi, then the still-pristine state of "Acropolis" is testament to the resilience of coral reefs, the protection the "barrier" offers the inner reef, and the general patchiness of storm damage. Liz and I dived and worked on the Ribbon Reefs a decade ago—in fact, it's where we first met. During our expedition last month, we were thrilled to see the sites were in even better condition now than when we last saw them. Familiar coral heads and bommies seem to have more fish than ever. The corals are in better condition, and of course bigger than they were 10 years ago. The many anemones I used to film each week have found new tenants, but are still right where I last saw them: True clownfish have replaced the Pink anemonefish on top of "Steve's Bommie", while Barrier Reef anemonefish have replaced Spinecheeks a little further down the site. It was like returning to an old neighbourhood... some faces may have changed, but the same houses stand strong. This video shows a random mix of footage from the Ribbon Reefs dive sites. I hope it doesn't take another 10 years before I re-visit them again. —Josh Jensen ~ Music: "Air on the G string" recording owned by Partners In Rhyme and licensed to Undersea Productions for commercial use. 10 MOST DANGEROUS OCEAN CREATURES IN THE WORLD

10:17
10 Most Dangerous Water Animals In The World ► Subscribe: https://goo.gl/vHN6qB For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] There are many different types of creatures that live in streams, lakes, seas and oceans. And while many of these creatures are harmless, there are many that are incredibly dangerous if you happen to have an encounter with them. These dangerous animals lurk beneath the surface of the water in a world vastly different than ours, and must be deadly to survive. Join us as we take a look at 10 of the most dangerous water creatures. 10. Australian Box Jellyfish – This creature is not one to be messed around with if you happen to swim into a swarm of them. And while they may seem harmless, the Australian box jellyfish is considered to be the most venomous marine animal in the world. They have tentacles that are covered with tiny darts called nematocysts, and they are loaded with poison. 9. Flower Urchin – Beautiful but deadly, these sea urchins are extremely venomous. They look like a bouquet of small flowers; to which they get their name from. They feed on invertebrates, sponges, and dead fish, and have well developed jaws for grinding up their prey. 8. The Saltwater Crocodile – Evolving around 200 million years in the Mesozoic epoch, crocodiles have far outlived the dinosaurs. The Salt water crocodile is the world’s largest reptile, and they have been known to grow up to 27 feet long and weigh 2,465 lbs. 7. Textile Cone Snail – Mother nature teaches us that anything in nature that is beautiful, is most likely deadly, and a warning to predators and humans to not touch or disturb them. This holds true for the Textile Cone Snail. 6. The Sea Snake – These highly venomous marine snakes are closely related and belong to the same family as the cobra. There are two independently evolved groups: the true sea snakes which are related to Australian terrestrial elapids, and the sea kraits which are related to Asian cobras. 5. The Lionfish – Lionfish are skilled hunters, using specialized bilateral swim bladder muscles to provide exquisite control of location in the water column, allowing the fish to alter its center of gravity to better attack prey. The lionfish then spreads its large pectoral fins and swallows its prey in a single motion. 4. The Stingray – Stingrays are a group of rays, which are cartilaginous fish related to sharks, and are one of the oceans deadliest creatures. Most stingrays have one or more barbed stingers on their tails, which are used exclusively for self-defense. 3. Blue-Ringed Octopus – This octopus has some of the most striking colors of any ocean creature. They get their name from the brightly blue colored rings on its body. 2. Needlefish – These strange looking creatures are very slender, and have a single dorsal fin, placed far back on the body. Needlefish are capable of making short jumps out of the water at up to 37 mph. Since Needlefish swim near the surface, they often leap over the decks of shallow boats rather than going around. 1. The Moray Eel - Most attacks stem from disruption of a moray's burrow to which they react strongly, but an increasing number of accidents also occur during hand feeding of morays by divers, an activity often used by dive companies to attract tourists.

10:06
The sea is home to one of the most significant parts of the animal kingdom anywhere on Earth. Even though there are numerous creatures that can eat you with ease, there are equally as many creatures that are ready to swim and play with you. Many of the animals that call the ocean their home are incredibly intelligent, playful, and are some of the friendliest creatures anywhere. Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr 3. Jellyfish in Jellyfish Lake You should avoid most jellyfish from around the world due to their toxic stingers that can cause significant pain to humans. However, a small lake in Palau is home to a unique species of jellyfish that are missing these poisonous stingers. Thanks to the lack of stingers, these jellyfish make for one of the most peaceful creatures in the sea. The jellyfish that have survived in this lake has done so thanks to a unique metabolic process. By feeding on fast-growing algae, the jellyfish in this lake are capable of surviving on little food with no predators. As the sun moves across the lake growing natural algae, the jellyfish migrate from one end of the lake to another. These migrations when seen from above looks impressive and brings in many tourists. A trip to Jellyfish lake has been a fantastic trip many tourists have embarked on for many years. Recently, the government has temporarily shut down the ability to snorkel with these sea creatures due to a sudden drop in the population of jellyfish in the lake. Between the extreme drought and El Nino weather pattern in the area, the jellyfish population has dwindled to alarmingly low numbers. Hopefully, with increased rain and better climate conditions, these amazing creatures will flourish again. 2. Beluga Whale http://everythingchurchill.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/Beluga_051.jpg http://everythingchurchill.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/Beluga_07.jpg As with the Humpback Whale, the Beluga whale makes our list as one of the friendliest sea creatures. These massive white whales are beautiful creatures that are found in arctic to sub-arctic ocean temperatures. Due to their nature to travel in groups of 10 or more, these whales make for majestic animals that are friendly to all humans. Measuring in over 18 feet long, and over 3000 pounds, the Beluga whale is a fantastic sight to see. Thanks to its high pitched tweets, the Beluga whale is sometimes referred to as the sea canary. The Beluga whale also has the unique ability to mimic human speech through its high pitched sounds. In the wild, the cry of a Beluga whale has even been compared to the shouting of children. The first Beluga whale was brought into captivity in 1861, marking the first time a whale was kept in captivity. As with Humpbacks, it is best to experience Beluga whales from a distance to their large size. One of the most well-known places to view the Beluga whale is in the Northern Hudson Bay coastline. During June to mid-September, this bay becomes home to over 50,000 beluga whales. Local tourist companies offer small boats that can be taken out to the bay to view the whales up close. Even from the distance of a boat, these creatures can be seen in all their beauty as they breach the ocean’s surface and playfully swim beneath your boat. 1. Sea Otters Between their cute fur covered body, to their ability to play and problem solve, the Sea Otter is one of the friendliest creatures living in the ocean. Similar to Humpback whales, the Sea Otter was hunted for hundreds of years. It wasn’t until the 20th century that Sea Otters saw a massive spike in their population. After Zoos started to bring Sea Otters in for exhibits, the public fell in love with these friendly animals. Sea Otters are one of the smallest marine mammals, measuring about 4 feet long. While they are descendants of the weasel family, they are the heaviest members weighing in from 50 to 100 pounds. As with some sea creatures, Sea Otters are intelligent. Many Otters love to dine on clams and other shelled animals of the ocean. Since they do not have the strength to break the shells, many otters will store rocks under their arms as they hunt to help break the shells open. The best way to experience a sea otter is in a zoo or other aquarium. Many zoos offer dedicated exhibits that allow guests to experience first hand the friendly Sea Otter. These exhibits usually include allowing the guest to feed the sea otter and participate in a training session alongside professional animal trainers. A handful of zoos even offer guests the ability to swim with the sea otters for a short period, giving them the opportunity to play with these friendly creatures.
