ROUND 1 Temperament
The English Bulldog may look intimidating, but quite the opposite is true. They are known to be among one of the most gentle, loyal, alert and courageous dogs on the planet which is why they are such a popular choice as family pets.
Known to be real clowns, Boxers are often referred to as the "jokers of the dog world". They are energetic, playful and fun characters to have around and they take a long time to mature. Boxers are always eager to please and extremely loyal dogs by nature.
Both dogs are loving, kind and loyal breeds but due to hyperactivity of the Boxer and the much calmer more relaxed nature of the Bulldog, the Bulldog takes round 1.
ROUND 2 Intelligence & Trainiability
English Bulldogs are known to be intelligent dogs, but with this said they have a bit of a stubborn streak and therefore they are not that easy to train.
Boxers are intelligent dogs, but they need to be well handled and given the right sort of guidance from a young age for them to be truly obedient dogs. They also need to be well socialised as soon as possible so they get to meet new people, other animals and new situations for them to grow up to be calmer, more rounded dogs.
Neither dogs are recommended for high level obedience work but the Boxer is definitely the superior of the 2 in this department!
ROUND 3 Health & Life Expectancy
EB have a life expectancy of 10 years and suffers from a huge list of common health issues that are too long to list here.
Has a average life expectancy of 12 years.
The Boxer takes a 2-1 lead with a longer life expectancy and fewer health issues than the Bulldog!
ROUND 4 Guarding And Protection
English Bulldogs are not the best watchdogs, but they do become protective of their owners, especially children and they will bark when someone comes to the door or if they don't like what is happening in their environment.
Boxers are exceptionally good natural watchdogs, a trait that's deeply embedded in their psyche which in short, means they don't need to be trained to guard over and protect anything.
The Bulldog may look mean but he doesn’t compare to the guarding and protection potential of the Boxer!
ROUND 5 Appearance
Males 31 - 40 cm 24 - 25 kg, Females 31 - 40 cm 22 - 23 kg
The English Bulldog is a proud and noble dog with a delightfully 'grumpy' looking character. They are powerful, smooth coated dogs that boast being thick set, broad and compact, standing low to the ground.
Males 57 - 63 cm 30-32kg , Females 53 - 59 cm 25-27kg
One of the most noticeable and endearing physical traits of Boxers, is their undershot jaw and unlike in many other breeds, this is one trait that is highly desirable in the breed.
Round 5 is always subjective and I honestly love both breeds but if I was choosing on looks alone, although it’s really hard I would go with Boxer.
So the Boxer gets his first win here in the UDC with a 4-1 victory of the English Bulldog who drop to 0-3.
