CSS Display none vs Visibility hidden

02:28
1. Display none: When this property is attached to an element, it will entirely remove that element from page. No space will be taken by this element on page. 2. Visibility hidden: When this property is attached to an element, it will hide the element but it will occupy its space on the page.

jQuery add event handler to dynamically created element

09:15
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?sort=dd&view=1 Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/04/jquery-add-event-handler-to-dynamically.html In this video we will discuss, how to add event handlers to dynamically created elements. Let us understand this with an example. The following example, allows us to dynamically create new list item (li), attach a click event handler and add it to the unordered list (ul). This happens when you click "Add a New List Item" button. The problem with this approach is that we are binding a click event handler to every list item. This means if you have 500 list items, then there will be 500 event handlers in the memory and this may negatively affect the performance of your application. <html> <head> <title></title> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('li').on('click', function () { $(this).fadeOut(500); }); $('#btnAdd').on('click', function () { var newListItem = $('<li>New List Item</li>').on('click', function () { $(this).fadeOut(500); }); $('ul').append(newListItem); }); }); </script> </head> <body style="font-family:Arial"> <input id="btnAdd" type="button" value="Add a New List Item" /> <ul> <li>List Item</li> <li>List Item</li> </ul> </body> </html> A better way of doing the same from a performance standpoint is shown below. In this example, the click event handler is attached to the listitem (li) parent element (ul). Even if you have 500 list items, there is only one click event handler in memory. So how does this work 1. When you click on a list item (li), the event gets bubbled up to its parent (ul) as the list item (li) does not have an event handler 2. The bubbled event is handled by the the parent (ul) element, as it has a click event handler. 3. When a new list item is added dynamicaly, you don't have to add the click event handler to it. Since the newly created list item (li) is added to the same parent element (ul), the click event of this list item also gets bubbled upto the same parent and will be handled by it. <html> <head> <title></title> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('ul').on('click', 'li', function () { $(this).fadeOut(500); }); $('#btnAdd').on('click', function () { $('ul').append('<li>New List Item</li>'); }); }); </script> </head> <body style="font-family:Arial"> <input id="btnAdd" type="button" value="Add a New List Item" /> <ul> <li>List Item</li> <li>List Item</li> </ul> </body> </html>

hide paragraph in html using Jquery

03:01
This Video shows how to create a simple hide application in ASP.NET using jQuery. Please check code in comment section. The .hide() and .show() methods, without any parameters can be like smart shorthand methods for .css('display', 'string'), where 'string' is the appropriate display value. The effect, as might be expected, is that the matched set of elements will be immediately hidden or shown without animation. The .hide() method sets the inline style attribute of the matched set of elements to display: none. Even smart part here is that it remembers the value of the display property typically blocks or inline before it was changed to none. And the .show() method restores display properties of the matched set of elements to whatever they initially were before "display: none" was applied.

jquery show hide password

Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?sort=dd&view=1 Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/05/jquery-show-hide-password.html In this video we will discuss how to toggle password visibility using show / hide password checkbox. Here is what we want to achieve 1. When Show password checkbox IS NOT CHECKED, the password should be masked 2. When Show password checkbox IS CHECKED, the password should be in clear text and visible to the user One of the simplest ways of achieving this is by changing the type attribute of the password field depending on the checked status of Show password checkbox 1. If the Show password checkbox is CHECKED change the type to text 2. If the Show password checkbox is NOT CHECKED change the type to password Replace < with LESSTHAN symbol and > with GREATERTHAN symbol The following is the HTML and jQuery code <html> <head> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('#cbShowPassword').click(function () { $('#txtPassword').attr('type', $(this).is(':checked') ? 'text' : 'password'); }); }); </script> </head> <body style="font-family:Arial"> Password : <input type="password" id="txtPassword" /> <input type="checkbox" id="cbShowPassword" />Show password </body> </html> The problem with the above approach is that it does not work in IE 8 and earlier versions. This is because with IE8 and earlier versions the type attribute of input elements cannot be changed once set. The following code works in all browsers including IE8 and earlier versions. When Show password checkbox is clicked 1. Retrieve the value the from the password textbox and store it in a variable for later use. 2. Delete the password input filed. 3. If the "Show password" checkbox is CHECKED, then add a new input filed of type text, else add a new input filed of password. In both the cases set the value attribute of the input element = the variable created in Step 1. <html> <head> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('#cbShowPassword').click(function () { var currentPassowrdFiled = $('#txtPassword'); var currentPassword = currentPassowrdFiled.val(); currentPassowrdFiled.remove(); if ($(this).is(':checked')) { $(this).before('<input type="text" id="txtPassword" value="' + currentPassword + '">'); } else { $(this).before('<input type="password" id="txtPassword" value="' + currentPassword + '">'); } }); }); </script> </head> <body style="font-family:Arial"> Password : <input type="password" id="txtPassword" /> <input type="checkbox" id="cbShowPassword" />Show password </body> </html>

CSS Lesson 5 - CSS Borders, Margin and Padding

10:36
CSS Borders: CSS attribute, allow you to completely customize the borders that appear around HTML elements. With HTML, it used to be impossible to place a border around an element, except for the table. Border-style Border-width Border-color Border Styles: The border-style property specifies what kind of border to display. The following values are allowed: dotted  dashed  solid  double  groove  ridge inset  outset  none  hidden  Border-color: You customize the Border colors using css property called border-color. Margins: A margin defines the white space around an HTML element's border. CSS has properties for specifying the margin for each side of an element: margin-top margin-right margin-bottom margin-left All the margin properties can have the following values: auto - the browser calculates the margin length - specifies a margin in px, pt, cm, etc. inherit - specifies that the margin should be inherited from the parent element. CSS Padding:: A padding is the space between an element's border and the content within it. Padding - Individual Sides:- CSS has properties for specifying the padding for each side of an element: padding-top padding-right padding-bottom padding-left All the padding properties can have the following values: length - specifies a padding in px, pt, cm, etc. inherit - specifies that the padding should be inherited from the parent element CSS Height and Width: The Height and width properties are used to set the height and width of an element. While the files are being uploaded we want to display the jQuery progress bar. As soon as the upload is complete, we want to display complete message in the progress bar, and it should slowly fade out. UploadHandler.ashx Code using System.IO; using System.Web; namespace Demo { public class UploadHandler : IHttpHandler { public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) { if (context.Request.Files.Count > 0) { HttpFileCollection selectedFiles = context.Request.Files; for (int i = 0; i < selectedFiles.Count; i++) { System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(1000); HttpPostedFile PostedFile = selectedFiles[i]; string FileName = context.Server.MapPath("~/Uploads/" + Path.GetFileName(PostedFile.FileName)); PostedFile.SaveAs(FileName); } } } public bool IsReusable { get { return false; } } } } WebForm code <%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="WebForm1.aspx.cs" Inherits="Demo.WebForm1" %> <!DOCTYPE html> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head runat="server"> <title></title> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script src="jquery-ui.js"></script> <link href="jquery-ui.css" rel="stylesheet" /> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $("#btnUpload").click(function (event) { var files = $("#FileUpload1")[0].files; if (files.length > 0) { var formData = new FormData(); for (var i = 0; i < files.length; i++) { formData.append(files[i].name, files[i]); } var progressbarLabel = $('#progressBar-label'); var progressbarDiv = $('#progressbar'); $.ajax({ url: 'UploadHandler.ashx', method: 'post', data: formData, contentType: false, processData: false, success: function () { progressbarLabel.text('Complete'); progressbarDiv.fadeOut(2000); }, error: function (err) { alert(err.statusText); } }); progressbarLabel.text('Uploading...'); progressbarDiv.progressbar({ value: false }).fadeIn(500); } }); }); </script> </head> <body style="font-family: Arial"> <form id="form1" runat="server"> Select Files : <asp:FileUpload ID="FileUpload1" runat="server" AllowMultiple="true" /> <br /><br /> <input type="button" id="btnUpload" value="Upload Files" /> <br /><br /> <div style="width: 300px"> <div id="progressbar" style="position: relative; display: none"> <span style="position: absolute; left: 35%; top: 20%" id="progressBar-label"> Uploading... </span> </div> </div> </form> </body> </html> Please note : contentType option should be set to false to tell jQuery to not set any content type header. processData option should also be set to false, otherwise, jQuery will try to convert your FormData into a string, which will fail.

CSS Fixed Headers

04:33
This is a small tutorial on how to modify your css headers to allow them to be fixed. Fixed headers allows you to create a header on the page and then it is fixed in that position on the page, so that as you scroll the header will overlap the content staying in the same place you set.

How to create a modal with HTML, CSS & JS - Part 4: JavaScript continued

18:33
With the modal working, we want to add a nice little fade in and fade out effect. Because we can't transition the display property, instead we want to transition its opacity. To do this, I create a couple of very simple CSS animations, that we use inside of the JavaScript. Also, to get things to work properly on fade out, I add in a new event listener - animationend - to only change the display property only once the modal has faded out. If not, it would display: none before the animation is done, defeating the purpose! --- My Code Editor: VS Code - https://code.visualstudio.com/ How my browser refreshes when I save: https://youtu.be/h24noHYsuGc --- Support me on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/kevinpowell I'm on some other places on the internet too! Part 94 Providing visual feedback using LoadingElementId AjaxOption

06:22
Link for code samples used in the demo http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2013/09/part-94-providing-visual-feedback-using.html Link for csharp, asp.net, ado.net, dotnet basics, mvc and sql server video tutorial playlists http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists This is continuation to Part 93, Please watch Part 93 from the ASP.NET MVC tutorial before proceeding with this video. One problem with partial page updates is that, they donot provide any visual feedback if the request is taking a long time to process. With full page postbacks, we don't have this problem, because the entire page is posted to the server and hence the user knows something is happening. For example, let's say a request in our ajax enabled application takes 10 seconds to complete. When the user clicks the button and if we don't provide him with any visual feedback that the request is being processed, the user may think the website is not working and he may click the button again. So, it is very important that we provide some visual feedback. To achieve this here are the steps. Step 1: Right click on the project name in solution explorer, and a folder with name = Images. Copy and paste the animated GIF image, in the Images folder. Please note: You can create animated GIF images using the following website. http://spiffygif.com/ Step 2: Place the following DIV tag on the view, where you want the image to show up when request is still being processed. [div id="divloading" style="display:none;"] [img src="~/Images/spinner.gif"/] [/div] Step 3: Modify the Ajax.ActionLink() html helper method on the view as shown below. Notice that, we have set LoadingElementId = "divloading" @Ajax.ActionLink("All", "All", new AjaxOptions { HttpMethod = "GET", UpdateTargetId = "divStudents", InsertionMode = InsertionMode.Replace, LoadingElementId = "divloading" }) Step 4: The controller action method in our example, completes in no time. So the image never shows up. To introduce some latency include, System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(1000); statement in the controller action method. The duration for the sleep method is in milliseconds. We have specified 1000 mill-seconds, so the thread is going to sleep for 1 second. public PartialViewResult All() { System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(1000); List[Student] model = db.Students.ToList(); return PartialView("_Student", model); } Now run the application and notice that image shows up, while the request is still being processed. When request processing completes and when the response is received, the loading image disappears and the UI is automatically updated, with the data received.

My Personal JavaScript Notes on How to

05:30
MyWebSite: https://www.aimiecaprice.com How to store an HTML elements content into a variable. How to write content to a variable using JavaScript. How to run a comparison statement on an HTML elements content When I initially dove into this, creating the condition was the thing that stumped me most. I got the rest of the equation that stated if this condition exists, do xyz. But my problem came with how do you get JavaScript to check if the condition exist and how do you create condition? Actually creating the condition is what really stump me most probably because I was over thinking it. I knew I wanted JavaScript to change the CSS display property depending on what image a user clicked...so I needed to write a function, make the image clickable, and have the function fire off "OnClick" So I created the condition inside the function which meant every time that function fired off the condition would be created by the function. JavaScript would literally write code that stated var x = 1, or var x = 2, depending on which function was being called by the user clicking various different images. . Example var x = 1; if( x == 1) { document.getElementById("desTxt1").style.display = "inline-block"; document.getElementById("desTxt2").style.display = "none"; document.getElementById("desTxt3").style.display = "none"; document.getElementById("desTxt4").style.display = "none"; document.getElementById("desTxt5").style.display = "none"; document.getElementById("desTxt6").style.display = "none"; document.getElementById("desTxt7").style.display = "none"; document.getElementById("desTxt8").style.display = "none"; document.getElementById("desTxt9").style.display = "none"; document.getElementById("desTxt10").style.display = "none"; document.getElementById("desTxt11").style.display = "none"; document.getElementById("desTxt12").style.display = "none"; }

How to check if JavaScript is enabled

09:17
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/02/how-to-check-if-javascript-is-enabled.html In this video we will discuss how to check if JavaScript is enabled or disabled. Let us understand this with an example. We have a page that captures Name and Gender. Both fields are required. The page relies on JavaScript being enabled for performing validation. We should always have server side validation irrespective of whether we have client side validation or not. It is not a good practice to rely just on client side validation, but for the purpose of this demo, let us say we only have client side validation. If JavaScript is enabled then we want to display the Name and Gender elements and the user can continue to use the application. If JavaScript is disabled then we want to hide the Name and Gender elements and we want to display the following message. It seems that you have disabled JavaScript. Please enable JavaScript. The easiest way to detect if JavaScript is enabled is by using noscript tag. The content inside the [noscript] element will be displayed only if scripts are not supported, or are disabled in the user's browser. [noscript] [style type="text/css"] .rootDiv { display: none; } [/style] [h1]It seems that you have disabled JavaScript. Please enable JavaScript.[/h1] [/noscript] [div id="rootElement" class="rootDiv"] [table border="1"] [tr] [td] Name [/td] [td] [input id="txtName" type="text" onfocus="validateIfEmpty('txtName')" onblur="validateIfEmpty('txtName')" onkeyup="validateIfEmpty('txtName')" /] [/td] [/tr] [tr] [td] Gender [/td] [td] [input id="txtGender" type="text" onfocus="validateIfEmpty('txtGender')" onblur="validateIfEmpty('txtGender')" onkeyup="validateIfEmpty('txtGender')" /] [/td] [/tr] [/table] [/div] [script type="text/javascript"] function validateIfEmpty(control) { var controlToValidate = document.getElementById(control); if (controlToValidate.value == "") { controlToValidate.style.background = "red"; } else { controlToValidate.style.background = "white"; } } [/script]
