Debt Management Annual Review 2015: Large scale bond purchases became part of ECB's toolkit
Year 2015 set a new landmark for euro area monetary policy making. As the central bank interest rates had been brought down to their lower bound, continued significant reductions of market expectations for medium-term inflation called for a new kind of monetary policy accommodation in the euro area. Under these circumstances, the ECB decided to follow the example set by its international peers; the large scale asset purchases initiated in March 2015 will eventually turn the Eurosystem, and Bank of Finland in particular, into the largest buyer of Finnish sovereign bonds for years to come. [276] The Euro's deep dive
The European Central Bank announced plans for a large scale asset purchase plan. Details of the 1.1 trillion euro plan showed more accommodation than anticipated and the euro fell to a 11-year low below $1.15 on the news. Eurozone government bonds were higher across the board. The ECB’s program calls for risk sharing by national central banks who will aid in the purchase of 60 billion euros of assets each month from March 2015 until the end of September 2016. Edward Harrison weighs in. Then, Erin reports live from Davos on the interesting events she witnessed at the World Economic Forum including an exchange between hedge fund boss Ray Dalio and Goldman Sachs President Gerry Cohn. Then, Edward sits down with Axel Merk – president and chief investment officer of Merk Investments. Axel tells us how effective he thinks the ECB’s quantitative easing program will be and gives us his take on if we’ll see euro dollar parity. After the break, Erin is joined in Davos by Rob Johnson – president of The Institute for New Economic Thinking. Rob talks to us about how to integrate new economic thinking into the models used by global leaders. He also weighs in on international political conflicts on the radar screen at the World Economic Forum and gives us his impassioned view on why economics is not just an abstract field but a social science dominated by real and diverse human beings. Our financial team also includes specialists who are experts in evaluating new private businesses called start-ups which have most chances to grow into large-scale and highly profitable enterprises. The idea is very simple: every business needs starting capital to go through bureaucratic formalities, rent premises, purchase equipment and other assets, hire employees and so on. As a rule, start-ups don’t have sufficient funds to afford everything they need for effective activity. Banks are quite prudent to “newbies”, so it is often very difficult to borrow as much as necessary from banks.

Alert: N. Korea Reportedly Furious at U.S. & S. Korea Large Scale Military Exercises in Thailand
Alert: N. Korea Reportedly Furious at U.S. & S. Korea Large Scale Military Exercises in Thailand N.Korea reportedly furious at The U.S. and South Korea, as the US Marine Corps sent a massive amount of Marines to Thailand for the annual Cobra Gold military drill, an exercise that has been held in Thailand almost every year since 1982. The exercise was originally intended to strengthen relations between the US and its oldest ally in South East Asia, but has since turned into a drill for multiple nations in the region. This year, 11,075 personnel from 29 countries will participate. The US nearly doubled its own contribution to the exercise this year, with 6,800 personnel participating. The increase is likely due to the threat of a more powerful China & North Korea. "This exercise is the largest multilateral exercise in the Indo-Pacific region. It speaks to the commitment of the US in the region," Steve Castonguay, a spokesman for the US Embassy in Bangkok, said.

[228] The Japanese QE experiment, Rickards on China and Merkel on investing
Our lead story: Just yesterday, we told you that QE was done – the Fed closed the door on its third program of large scale asset purchases to expand its balance sheet and QE3 was history. However, as the Japanese show us, QE is an economic policy zombie that no amount of garlic protection can prevent from rising up again to work its magic on our global economy! Erin weighs in. Then, Erin talks to Jim Rickards – chief global strategist at West Shore Funds and author of The New York Times bestselling book "The Death of Money." Jim tells Erin how far Chinese growth will have to fall in order to make a successful rebalancing a possibility and gives us his prediction on what will happen if oil prices continue to stay weak. After the break, Erin sits down with David Merkel – founder and president of Aleph Investments. The top 449 companies in the S&P 500 spent $2.4 trillion – more than half their profits – on buybacks between 2003 and 2012. [52] Celente: 'There's panic on the Street' simply because the economy is faltering
Today was Janet Yellen's first day on the job as head of the Federal Reserve. And the Federal Reserve has already begun tapering its large scale asset purchase (quantitative easing) program. But the Yellen Fed will still be concerned with keeping equities and housing prices from falling. Many new economy companies have benefitted from the market rally during the Fed's QE program. One company which is getting a bid as the Fed transition occurs is Herbalife. Nevertheless, the head of the Federal Trade Commission has agreed to meet with minority and consumer activists to hear concerns about the company. Erin Ade details the discussions. Then, Erin talks to Gerald Celente, author, trend forecaster, and publisher of the "Trends Journal" about the Fed, the US Economy and global economic trends. The US Federal Reserve has pared its QE program even before Janet Yellen took the reins. The question for Celente is what this means for the US economy. Yields have gone down, not up. But Celente believes this will not last and that the economy is faltering to boot. And then, Erin and Boom Bust producer Edward Harrison discuss municipal deals that are making the rounds in two troubled locations, Detroit and Puerto Rico. Str0ng, Philippine Defense Assets From Russian!
Str0ng, Philippine Defense Assets From Russian! MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte has instructed Philippine defense officials to go to Russia and China to buy defense assets from those countries. "I would like to ask Defense Secretary Lorenzana to, samahan kayo – the technical people. Pumunta kayo ng Russia at pumunta kayo ng China at tingnan ninyo kung ano ang pinakamabuti," said Duterte on Tuesday, September 13. (I would like to ask Defense Secretary Lorenzana to accompany the technical people. Go to Russia and China and see what's the best.) He was speaking at the 48th anniversary of the Presidential Airlift Wing at Villamor Air Base, attended by Philippine Air Force (PAF) troops and military officials. Two countries, he said, have offered the Philippine government a soft loan for the purchase of military equipment. "Two countries have agreed to give me the softest loan. It will be payable in 2025," he said, while giving assurances that the government has the money for defense assets as part of the military's modernization plan. Duterte has told these two countries that he prefers assets that can be used to fight insurgencies and terrorism, particularly in Mindanao. "Sabi ko sa kanila na I want weaponries and armaments, hindi ko kailangan 'yang mga jets, 'yang mga F-16 (I told them I want weaponries and armaments, I don't need jets, the F-16s), that's of no use to us. We don't intend to fight any country using that….Let's content ourselves with even the propeller-driven planes but which we can use extensively sa (in) anti-insurgency," he said. Aside from "propeller-driven planes," he wants "short-run bombers" to counter internal threats. F-16 jets, which Duterte said are unnecessary, were offered by the United States to the Philippines. The US has provided two warships – Alcaraz and Del Pilar – pending the Philippines' procurement of brand new ones. (READ: Duterte attacks US, praises China) The Philippines has no defense treaty or agreements with China and Russia. It has a Mutual Defense Treaty and an Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement with the US inked in 1951 and 2014, respectively. Government-to-government deal Duterte said he would only allow the "government-to-government" purchase of equipment and deals with "no strings attached." "We can buy the arms where they are cheap and where there are no strings attached and it is transparent. I told them, I would not deal with you except on a government-to-government basis," the President said. China, a potential source of Philippine defense assets under the Duterte administration, is in the middle of a maritime dispute with the Philippines. It continues to reject an international arbitral tribunal's ruling that recognizes the Philippines' claim over the West Philippine Sea and not China's. (READ: China rejects talks with PH if 'based on ruling') But Duterte made it clear he wants to use new military equipment for internal security threats such as terrorism in Mindanao which "could generate into a full-blown civil war." Duterte assured the military that the modernization of the Armed Forces would continue under his administration. "You will start your modernization further with me. Ibigay ko sa lahat sa inyo 'yung kailangan ninyo para talunin 'yung kalaban (I will give you everything you need to beat the enemy)," he said. Improved medical services The President also said he wants to improve medical services for the military and the police, as he complained about the current system's complicated bureaucracy. He said he is "not comfortable" with the various divisions of the military paying "interbranch" for medical services. To make things more efficient, he prefers a single medical service command for the entire military and eventually for the police. "I'd like just to give you one service command para sa lahat (for all). It would expedite matters and centralize everything," he said. Duterte, in a previous military camp visit, promised the construction of a new building at the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) Medical Center as well as the purchase of new medical equipment, all worth P500 million. Thanks for watching and hearing about this latest military news, video is just an illustration and hope you enjoy it.

A Look at the Origins and Unwinding of QE
In this webinar, Jonathan D. Hill, CFA, of Gurtin Municipal Bond Management discusses the Federal Reserve’s (the Fed’s) implementation and subsequent unwinding of Quantitative Easing (QE), the unprecedented central bank policy the Fed rolled out following the Great Recession. Mr. Hill’s analysis provides a nuanced understanding of the policy’s history, from its inception in the United States in 2008 to its implications in the current macro-economic environment. Mr. Hill’s exploration of QE, presented here for Canterbury Consulting, sheds light on QE’s influence on the markets to date and offers a forward-looking perspective that addresses the possible effects of the unwinding of the Fed’s balance sheet on financial conditions, the potential future paths of interest rates given the circumstances, and the state of QE in the international arena. Some key questions Mr. Hill addresses in his discussion are: • How exactly did the Fed implement Quantitative Easing, and what about its implementation was so unconventional? • How did the market react to the introduction of Quantitative Easing? • How was the Federal Reserve able to purchase such a large scale of assets, in effect increasing the monetary supply to do so, without causing hyperinflation? • To what extent might the unwinding of QE be contractionary? • How is Quantitative Easing and its unwinding playing out in the international arena? To find out the answers to these questions and to hear Mr. Hill’s in-depth insight into the topic, please watch this video recording. 5 African Countries That Have Fallen into China's Debt Trap

From roads and railways to ports, the Chinese government is backing large-scale projects across Africa as part of its so-called Belt and Road initiative. The leaders of more than 50 African countries have been in Beijing for a two-day summit. China's President Xi Jinping offered them $60bn in new financing deals. But what are the long-term financial risks? DEBT TRAP So far some countries are beginning to find it hard to repay LOANS that they applied from China.A big chunk of these LOANS is usually stolen by corrupt government officials who take advantage of weaker institutions in most African countries. KENYA Kenya has raised tax on goods to be able to repay some of the loans that have matured. This has led to high rise in cost of living to unbearable levels. Another good example is Djibouti and Ethiopia who are coming to terms with having to repay DEBTS owed to China. Seven arrested for alleged involvement in large scale drug ring
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office said seven people have been arrested in the bust of a large scale drug operation involving a Mexican drug cartel. Agents from the organized crime division received information that some of the suspects would travel to Los Angeles to meet with members of the drug cartel to buy heroin, crystal methamphetamine and cocaine. They would then ship the drugs back to the Tri-State. Often, the shipments would be delivered to places in Hamilton and Butler counties, as well as Kentucky. On February 7 and 8, search warrants were served. Investigators say they seized about $100,000 in criminal assets, 23 pounds of crystal meth, 9.3 pounds of heroin and fentanyl and 1,100 heroin/fentanyl pills disguised as oxycodone. The drugs in total were worth more than $1.6 million dollars on the street. Twelve guns, some of them assault-type weapons, were also seized. Arrested were Justin McElroy, Molly Manning, Robert Howard, Jeremy Schnur, Taylor Finley, Wesley Breen and Mario Adolfo Rosalles-Garcia.

How to Beat Wall Street: Golden Rules for Financial Planning and Investment (2009)
In finance, investment is the purchase of an asset or item with the hope that it will generate income or appreciate in the future and be sold at the higher price. It generally does not include deposits with a bank or similar institution. The term investment is usually used when referring to a long-term outlook. This is the opposite of trading or speculation, which are short-term practices involving a much higher degree of risk. Financial assets take many forms and can range from the ultra safe low return government bonds to much higher risk higher reward international stocks. A good investment strategy will diversify the portfolio according to the specified needs. The most famous and successful investor of all time is Warren Buffett. In March 2013 Forbes magazine had Warren Buffett ranked as number 2 in their Forbes 400 list.[3] Buffett has advised in numerous articles and interviews that a good investment strategy is long term and choosing the right assets to invest in requires due diligence. Edward O. Thorp was a very successful hedge fund manager in the 1970s and 1980s that spoke of a similar approach.[4] Another thing they both have in common is a similar approach to managing investment money. No matter how successful the fundamental pick is, without a proper money management strategy, full potential of the asset can't be reached. Both investors have been shown to use principles from the Kelly criterion for money management.[5] Numerous interactive calculators which use the kelly criterion can be found online.[6] In contrast, dollar (or pound etc.) cost averaging and market timing are phrases often used in marketing of collective investments and can be said to be associated with speculation. Investments are often made indirectly through intermediaries, such as pension funds, banks, brokers, and insurance companies. These institutions may pool money received from a large number of individuals into funds such as investment trusts, unit trusts, SICAVs etc. to make large scale investments. Each individual investor then has an indirect or direct claim on the assets purchased, subject to charges levied by the intermediary, which may be large and varied. It generally, does not include deposits with a bank or similar institution. Investment usually involves diversification of assets in order to avoid unnecessary and unproductive risk. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Investing Diversification refers to the number of different securities in a fund. A fund with more securities is said to be better diversified than a fund with smaller number of securities. Owning many securities reduces volatility by decreasing the impact of large price swings above or below the average return in a single security. A Wilshire 5000 index would be considered diversified, but a bio-tech ETF would not.[17] Since some indices, such as the S&P 500 and FTSE 100, are dominated by large company stocks, an index fund may have a high percentage of the fund concentrated in a few large companies. This position represents a reduction of diversity and can lead to increased volatility and investment risk for an investor who seeks a diversified fund. Some advocate adopting a strategy of investing in every security in the world in proportion to its market capitalization, generally by investing in a collection of ETFs in proportion to their home country market capitalization.[18] A global indexing strategy may outperform one based only on home market indexes because there may be less correlation between the returns of companies operating in different markets than between companies operating in the same market. Asset allocation is the process of determining the mix of stocks, bonds and other classes of investable assets to match the investor's risk capacity, which includes attitude towards risk, net income, net worth, knowledge about investing concepts, and time horizon. Index funds capture asset classes in a low cost and tax efficient manner and are used to design balanced portfolios. A combination of various index mutual funds or ETFs could be used to implement a full range of investment policies from low risk to high risk. In the United States, mutual funds price their assets by their current value every business day, usually at 4:00 p.m. Eastern time, when the New York Stock Exchange closes for the day.[19] Index ETFs, in contrast, are priced during normal trading hours, usually 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern time. Index ETFs are also sometimes weighted by revenue rather than market capitalization. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Index_funds

[227] Merk on Europe and the Fed and Keen on economics and asset price inflation
Our lead story: Yes, quantitative easing is over. The Fed began reducing the amount it purchased last December and on Wednesday announced it would end its long-running bond purchasing program. And while this closes the door on this particular round of quantitative easing, it is far from clear what will come next. Erin weighs in. Then, Erin is joined by Axel Merk – president of Merk Investments – to talk about the Fed, Europe, and oil. After the Fed ended its third round of large scale asset purchases (aka QE), the equities market and US government yields backed up. Going forward, Axel believes more volatility may be in store as risk premia increase and the market adjusts to a new world without the Fed’s interventions. After the break, Erin sits down with Steve Keen, head of the School of Economics, History, and Politics at Kingston University. Steve tells us about his book, “Debunking Economics,” now coming in a more accessible graphic art form. And he explains how to make finance and economics jargon more understandable to the general public. Steve also has a thing or two to say about the intersection of asset price inflation and economic growth. And in The Big Deal, Erin and Edward Harrison continue the discussion on the Fed and try to make the connection to economic growth and the real economy. Take a look! Markets had eagerly been awaiting the disclosure of the start date for QE ever since the central bank announced that it would embark on the large scale asset-purchase program back in January. Erin weighs in. Then, Erin sits down with Steve Hanke, professor of applied economics at Johns Hopkins University and director of the Troubled Currencies Project at the Cato Institute. Steve tells us how the Troika should approach negotiations with Greece, given what he sees as a perennially profligate government in the country. Steve also explains what’s going on in Venezuela and Argentina, where he sees generally poor economic governance. He has very little positive to say about either case. After the break, Erin is joined by investment strategist Paul Brodsky. Paul tells us how to manage country and currency risk when thinking about asset allocation and gives us his take on Russian oil assets. On a value basis, Russian assets look good. But there is political and currency risk in spades. And in The Big Deal, Erin and Edward Harrison discuss Brazil and Mark Cuban’s recent comments on another tech bubble. Take a look! The Big Lie About QE - "Quantitative Easing"
Video theme song:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fZBaPS_XvQ A Useful Idiot discusses 3 recent academic studies that came out, all indicating that the Federal Reserve's program of "Quantitative Easing" or "Large Scale Asset Purchases" has failed at it's stated goals - employment, economic expansion, and credit easing.There is also a new expose in the WSJ by an ex-Fed employee who also confirms these same findings.But it seems to have succeeded wonderfully at it's unstated goals: to transfer wealth through jacking up stocks, reinflating asset bubbles, and bailing out the banks.Interestingly, these are the same Fed policies that drove the US back into Depression in 1936. What is Quantitative easing?, Explain Quantitative easing, Define Quantitative easing
~~~ Quantitative easing ~~~ Title: What is Quantitative easing?, Explain Quantitative easing, Define Quantitative easing Created on: 2018-10-13 Source Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantitative_easing ------ Description: Quantitative easing , also known as large-scale asset purchases, is an expansionary monetary policy whereby a central bank buys predetermined amounts of government bonds or other financial assets in order to stimulate the economy and increase liquidity. An unconventional form of monetary policy, it is usually used when inflation is very low or negative, and standard expansionary monetary policy has become ineffective. A central bank implements quantitative easing by buying specified amounts of financial assets from commercial banks and other financial institutions, thus raising the prices of those financial assets and lowering their yield, while simultaneously increasing the money supply. This differs from the more usual policy of buying or selling short-term government bonds to keep interbank interest rates at a specified target value. Expansionary monetary policy to stimulate the economy typically involves the central bank buying short-term government bonds to lower short-term market interest rates. However, when short-term interest rates reach or approach zero, this method can no longer work. In such circumstances, monetary authorities may then use quantitative easing to further stimulate the economy, by buying specified quantities of financial assets without reference to interest rates, and by buying riskier or of longer maturity assets , thereby lowering interest rates further out on the yield curve. Quantitative easing can help ensure that inflation does not fall below a target. Risks include the policy being more effective than intended in acting against deflation , or not being effective enough if banks remain reluctant to lend and potential borrowers are unwilling to borrow. According to the International Monetary Fund, the U.S. Federal Reserve System, and various economists, quantitative easing undertaken since the global financial crisis of 2007–08 has mitigated some of the economic problems since the crisis. ------ To see your favorite topic here, fill out this request form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScU0dLbeWsc01IC0AaO8sgaSgxMFtvBL31c_pjnwEZUiq99Fw/viewform ------ Source: Wikipedia.org articles, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. What's In The News: November 2, 2011
This is what's in the news for Wednesday, November 2nd. Bloomberg reports that Fed officials are probably engineering a third round of large scale asset purchases, but a decision likely won't be announced today, according to economists in a Bloomberg News survey. Reuters reports that Sony Corp. The Wall Street Journal reports that Yahoo (NASDAQ:YHOO) is talking with private-equity firms about a deal in which they would take a minority stake in the company while effectively gaining control. Finally, the Wall Street Journal reports that as online videogame firm Zynga Inc. prepares to go public, Electronic Arts (ERTS) has broken Zynga's hold on the top games played on Facebook with "The Sims Social." Since the game's August debut, it has become Facebook's second-most-played game.
Sack - The SOMA Portfolio at $2.654 Trillion
Remarks by Brian P. Sack before the Money Marketeers of New York University, New York City, July 20, 2011 Thank you for inviting me here tonight to give these remarks. These events organized by the Money Marketeers provide an excellent venue to talk about the Federal Reserve's involvement in financial markets, given the focus and expertise of your group. As you know, the Federal Reserve recently completed its second round of large-scale asset purchases, known inside the Fed as LSAP2 and to everyone else in the world as QE2. With the program now in the books, I thought it would be a good time to look back and assess the experience with LSAP2. Specifically, I will discuss the effectiveness of the program relative to its stated objectives, and I will describe some the operational challenges that we faced in implementing it. Lastly, I will touch on several issues related to the potential evolution of the Federal Reserve's balance sheet going forward. As always, my comments do not necessarily reflect the views of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) or any other members of the Federal Reserve System. LSAP2 and the Federal Reserve's Balance Sheet Let me start with a few facts. The FOMC decided at its November 2010 meeting to expand the amount of domestic securities held in the System Open Market Account (SOMA) portfolio by $600 billion by purchasing longer-term Treasury securities through the end of June 2011. Those purchases were in addition to ones already being made to reinvest the principal payments from SOMA holdings of agency debt and agency mortgage-backed securities (MBS) into longer-term Treasury securities. The purchase program was implemented by the Open Market Trading Desk (Desk) at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. To be sure, it was a busy period for the Desk. Over the life of the program, we conducted 140 outright purchase operations to meet the directive set out by the FOMC. That meant that we were active on nearly every day possible over that period. In those operations, the Desk bought $767 billion of Treasury securities, which included the $600 billion expansion of the portfolio and $167 billion of reinvestments. Our operations ranged in size from just over $1 billion to around $9 billion, with an average size of about $5.5 billion. Those operations brought the amount of domestic assets held in the SOMA portfolio to $2.654 trillion. The current directive from the FOMC instructs the Desk to continue to reinvest the principal payments on all domestic assets held in SOMA into Treasury securities. Thus, the amount of assets held in the SOMA will remain at that level until the FOMC decides to change the directive. Of course, the portfolio at these levels is unusually large. In the absence of the asset purchase programs, the size of the SOMA portfolio would be around $1 trillion, as required to meet currency demand and other factors. Thus, the Federal Reserve has about $1.6 trillion of additional assets in the portfolio as a result of its asset purchase programs. The SOMA portfolio also has different characteristics than it would have had in the absence of the asset purchase programs. Most notably, the overall duration of the SOMA portfolio at the end of June was over 4½ years, compared to its historical range of between two and three years. Together, the larger amount and longer tenor of our securities holdings result in a considerable amount of duration risk in the SOMA portfolio, meaning that the market value of the portfolio is sensitive to movements in interest rates. One measure of this risk that is familiar to market participants is the concept of "10-year equivalents," or the amount of 10-year notes that would produce the same degree of overall interest rate risk. At this time, we have about $1.5 trillion of ten-year equivalents in the SOMA portfolio, which is about $1 trillion above the amount that we would have under our traditional portfolio approach. The majority of this additional risk came from the expansion of the balance sheet, but the extension of its average duration also contributed significantly. Transferring this additional duration risk to the Federal Reserve's portfolio, and hence out of the portfolios of market participants, was one channel through which the asset purchase program was intended to have its effect on financial conditions. This "portfolio balance" channel has been discussed by Chairman Bernanke on several occasions.2 This view associates the amount of policy stimulus with the stock of assets, or more precisely with the amount of duration risk, that the Federal Reserve takes onto its balance sheet. 20130627 锵锵三人行 刘纪鹏:全世界逼着美国卖"注水猪肉"
美联储理事鲍威尔周四(6月27日)表示,金融市场对美联储主席伯南克上周发表的有关今年稍晚将缩减购债规模的讲话反应过度了。鲍威尔认为,市场调整的幅度太大了,而如果对美联储未来货币政策路径进行重新评估,市场对此做出的调整应该没目前表现的那么大。鲍威尔同样强调,如果经济增长一如预期,将在今年稍晚缩减购债规模,在2014年中前后结束该计划。如果经济增长强于预期,美联储可能以更快的速度缩减购债。但是如果经济转弱,美联储可能推迟缩减购债规模,甚至可能增加购债规模。目前实施的大规模资产购买计划将持续一段时间。Fed Governor Powell on Thursday (June 27) said that the financial markets last week, Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke later this year will be published on the scale of debt reduction in the share's speech overreacting. Powell believes that the market rate of adjustment is too large, and if the Fed's future monetary policy path re-evaluation, the market adjustment should be made not so much the current performance. Powell also stressed that if the economic growth, as expected, will be purchased later this year to reduce the scale of debt in 2014 after the end of the plan year. If economic growth was stronger than expected, the Fed may cut faster debt purchase. But if the economy weakens, the Fed may be delayed to reduce the scale of the debt purchase and may even increase the size of the debt purchase. The current implementation of large-scale asset purchase program will continue for some time.
How To Store Silver Bars & Coins At Home - Mike Maloney
There are lots of reasons to buy silver—it’s a real asset, the coins are beautiful, it will likely outperform gold, and it’s more affordable. But that affordability comes with a catch. Once you start to accumulate, you quickly realize that silver requires a lot more storage space than gold. It’s relatively easy to hide some gold coins in a sock drawer or cookie jar, but those hiding places are impractical for the same dollar amount of silver. So how do we store our silver bullion both efficiently and safely? And should it be stored at home anyway? This article has some potential solutions for those investors that are stacking silver… Storing Silver Bullion at Home Everyone should keep some silver (and gold) in a place that is easily and immediately accessible. One advantage bullion offers is its high liquidity in a period of crisis—no worries about bank closures, lack of access to funds, or internet problems. So, if you have some bullion close by, you have the ability to fight through a crisis. On the other hand, if your silver is two days away or time-consuming to get to, its use as an emergency asset has diminished. As Mike Maloney pointed out in his book, Guide to Investing in Gold and Silver, “I believe everyone should have gold and silver in his or her own private possession, where you can lay your hands on it, because they are one of the few financial assets that can be completely private and not part of the financial system.” This doesn’t necessarily mean you should keep it inside your house. It means you want some of it readily accessible in an emergency, whether that emergency be a personal one or on a national scale. If you enjoyed watching this video, be sure to check out the Hidden Secrets of Money website at https://www.hiddensecretsofmoney.com/. It’s a world-leading educational series by Mike Maloney, the bestselling author of the Guide to Investing in Gold & Silver. As Mike explains in the series and his book, we live in an economic system that is made complicated by design. Basically, it’s set up so most people don’t even try to understand it. In Mike’s videos, he breaks down these concepts using easy-to-follow analogies, real pages from history, and animations that tie it all together. Private Company Valuation
In this tutorial, you'll learn how private companies are valued differently from public companies, including differences in the financial statements, the public comps, the precedent transactions, and the DCF analysis and WACC. Get all the files and the textual description and explanation here: http://www.mergersandinquisitions.com/private-company-valuation/ Table of Contents: 1:29 The Three Types of Private Companies and the Main Differences 6:22 Accounting and 3-Statement Differences 12:04 Valuation Differences 16:14 DCF and WACC Differences 21:09 Recap and Summary The Three Type of Private Companies To master this topic, you need to understand that "private companies" are very different, even though they're in the same basic category. There are three main types worth analyzing: Money Businesses: These are true small businesses, owned by families or individuals, with no aspirations of becoming huge. They are often heavily dependent on one person or several individuals. Examples include restaurants, law firms, and even this BIWS/M&I business. Meth Businesses: These are venture-backed startups aiming to disrupt big markets and eventually become huge companies. Examples include Kakao, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Tumblr – all before they were acquired. Empire Businesses: These are large companies with management teams and Boards of Directors; they could be public but have chosen not to be. Examples include Ikea, Cargill, SAS, and Koch Industries. You see the most differences with Money Businesses and much smaller differences with the other two categories. The main differences have to do with accounting and the three financial statements, valuation, and the DCF analysis. Accounting and 3-Statement Differences Key adjustments might include "normalizing" the company's financial statements to make them compliant with US GAAP or IFRS, classifying the owner's dividends as a compensation expense on the Income Statement, removing intermingled personal expenses, and adjusting the tax rate in future periods. These points should NOT be issues with Meth Businesses (startups) or Empire Businesses (large private companies) unless the company is another Enron. Valuation Differences The valuation of a private company depends heavily on its purpose: are you valuing the company right before an IPO? Or evaluating it for an acquisition by an individual or private/public buyer? These companies might be worth very different amounts to different parties – they *should* be worth the most in IPO scenarios because private companies gain a larger, diverse shareholder base like that. You'll almost always apply an "illiquidity discount" or "private company discount" to the multiples from the public comps; a 10x EBITDA multiple is great, but it doesn't hold up so well if the comps have $500 million in revenue and your company has $500,000 in revenue. This discount might range from 10% to 30% or more, depending on the size and scale of the company you're valuing. Precedent Transactions tend to be more similar, and you don't apply the same type of huge discount there for larger private companies. You may see more "creative" metrics used, such as Enterprise Value / Monthly Active Users, especially for private mobile/gaming/social companies. DCF and WACC Differences The biggest problems here are the Discount Rate and the Terminal Value. The Discount Rate has to be higher for private companies, but you can't calculate it in the traditional way because private companies don't have Betas or Market Caps. Instead, you often use the industry-average capital structure or average from the comparables to determine the appropriate percentages, and then calculate Beta, Cost of Equity, and WACC based on that. There are other approaches as well – use the firm's optimal capital structure, create a giant circular reference, or use earnings volatility or dividend growth rates – but this is the most realistic one. You use this approach for all private companies because they all have the same problem (no Market Cap or Beta). You'll also have to discount the Terminal Value, but this is mostly an issue for Money Businesses because of their dependency on the owner and key individuals. You could heavily discount the Terminal Value, use the company's future Liquidation Value AS the Terminal Value, or assume the company stops operating in the future and skip Terminal Value entirely. Regardless of which one you use, Terminal Value will be substantially lower for this type of company. The result is that the valuation will be MOST different for a Money Business, with smaller, but still possibly substantial, differences for Meth Businesses and Empire Businesses. http://www.mergersandinquisitions.com/private-company-valuation/
Su-30 Coming to Iran? Elite Russian Fighters in Iranian Hands Set be a defense for the Middle East
iran has, despite its lack of air superiority capabilities, continued to establish itself as a major regional-power, and the air-forces of Israel, Saudi Arabia and other Western partners have been key assets to hold the expansion of Iranian influence in check. Should Iran induct an air superiority fleet of its own however, acquiring high performance heavy fighters from Russia or China, it could well be key to shifting the balance of power-in the Middle East firmly in Tehran’s favour. A number of sources have reported since the signing of the JCPOA that Iran is seeking advanced Russian air superiority fighters to provide its air fleet with much needed modernisations. Some sources have indicated that Iranian pilots, and even members of the Iranian aligned Lebanese militia Hezbollah, have already begun training in Russia to operate such advanced combat-aircraft.
