In today's episode of Watch and Learn, we will be discussing moonphase watches. A moonphase watch simply tells you the current phase of the moon. Simple, right? But we will break it down and explain why the moon changes phase, and how a few different watches try to portray moonphase on the dial. We will eliminate some confusion that comes from "sun and moon" watches as well. Lastly, we will set a Graf Zeppelin Moonphase watch from scratch, to show you the entire process. This watch uses a Ronda 706B moonphase and calendar movement. So these steps can be used to set any watch using this movement, or a variant thereof. A lunar calendar is a calendar based upon cycles of the Moon's phases (synodic months), in contrast to solar calendars whose annual cycles are based only directly upon the solar year. The most commonly used calendar, the Gregorian calendar, is a solar calendar system which originally evolved out of a lunar calendar system. A purely lunar calendar is also distinguished from lunisolar calendars whose lunar months are brought into alignment with the solar year through some process of intercalation. The details of when months begin varies from calendar to calendar, with some using new, full, or crescent moons and others employing detailed calculations. The Maya counted the number of days in the current lunation. They used two systems for the zero date of the lunar cycle: either the first night they could see the thin crescent moon or the first morning when they could not see the waning moon. The age of the moon was depicted by a set of glyphs that mayanists coined glyphs D and E: A new moon glyph was used for day zero in the lunar cycle. D glyphs were used for lunar ages for days 1 through 19, with the number of days that had passed from the new moon. For lunar ages 20 to 30, an E glyph was used, with the number of days from 20. Because each lunation is approximately 29.5 days (29 days,12 hours, 44 minutes, and 3 seconds, or 29.530588 days), it is common for the months of lunar calendars to vary between 29 and 30 days. Because the period of twelve such lunations—a lunar year—is approximately 354 days, 8 hours, 48 minutes, and 34 seconds (354.367056 days), purely lunar calendars lose around 11 days per year relative to the Gregorian calendar. In purely lunar calendars such as the Islamic calendar, the lack of intercalation causes the lunar months to cycle through all the seasons of the Gregorian year over the course of a 33-lunar-year cycle. The cycle of the moon orbiting around the Earth is 28 days, an average of the synodic cycle (29.5 days between new moon to new moon) and the sidereal cycle (27.1 days until the moon reappears in the same place in the sky). 28 days also refers to the female biological cycle. The original 13 moons x 28 days cycle was also used by the Egyptians (Thoth), Druids, Polynesians, Incas, some Native Americans and the Chinese. Although the Gregorian calendar is in common and legal use in most countries, traditional lunar and lunisolar calendars continue to be used throughout the Old World to determine religious festivals and national holidays. Such holidays include Ramadan (Islamic calendar); the Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Mongolian New Year (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Mongolian calendars); the Nepali New Year (Nepali calendar); the Mid-Autumn Festival and Chuseok (Chinese and Korean calendars); Loi Krathong (Thai calendar); Sunuwar calendar and Diwali (Hindu calendars). In the modern version, each moon of the 13 Moon Calendar has the name and characteristics of the 13 Lunar Tones in the Tzolkin. Each moon is also named after an animal, based on the 13 major constellations rediscovered by Hugh Harleston. The 13 Moon 28-day synchronometer is a harmonic timespace matrix. It takes the moon 28 days to orbit the Earth; it makes this orbit 13 times each year. The standard of measure is the 28-day cycle, called a moon, because it is the median between the 29.5-day synodic cycle of the moon (new moon to new moon) and the 27.1-day sidereal cycle of the moon. Hence, it is a measure of Earth’s solar orbit using the 28-day lunar standard. This creates a perfect orbital measure of 13 moons of 28 days, totaling 364 days, or 52 perfect weeks of 7 days each. Most calendars referred to as "lunar" calendars are in fact lunisolar calendars. Their months are based on observations of the lunar cycle, with intercalation being used to bring them into general agreement with the solar year. The solar "civic calendar" that was used in ancient Egypt showed traces of its origin in the earlier lunar calendar, which continued to be used alongside it for religious and agricultural purposes. Present-day lunisolar calendars include the Chinese, Hindu, and Thai calendars. Synodic months are 29 or 30 days in length, making a lunar year of 12 months about 11 days shorter than a solar year. Some lunar calendars do not use intercalation, such as most Islamic calendars. For those that do, such as the Hebrew calendar, the most common form of intercalation is to add an additional month every second or third year. Some lunisolar calendars are also calibrated by annual natural events which are affected by lunar cycles as well as the solar cycle. An example of this is the lunar calendar of the Banks Islands, which includes three months in which the edible palolo worm mass on the beaches. These events occur at the last quarter of the lunar month, as the reproductive cycle of the palolos is synchronized with the moon. To know more: https://goo.gl/photos/mB9BADdyqxyFXV2m7

Our topic for today is Phases of Moon. The moon revolves around the earth in a fixed orbit. The moon does not have its own light. Sun gives light to moon. When the moon is between the earth and the sun, we cannot see the moon at all. This is because the side of the moon facing the earth does not get sunlight. This is called the new moon. After 2 to 3 days, we can see some part of the moon. This phase is called the waxing crescent. As the moon is gaining light, that is, expanding in illumination, we use the term waxing. After about a week, we can see half of the moon. This phase is called the first quarter. Two to three days later, more than half of the moon is visible. This phase is called the waxing gibbous. After about two weeks, we can see the full moon. This is because the full side of the moon facing the earth gets sunlight. Now, the moon begins its return journey from the full moon to the new moon. The next phase is called the waning gibbous. As the moon is now losing light, that is, decreasing in illumination, we use the term waning. The next phase is the last quarter followed by the waning crescent. When the moon comes back between the earth and sun, it enters the New moon phase again. Number of days between 2 new moons is 29 as the moon takes approximately 29 days to revolve once around the earth. These changing shapes of the moon are called phases of the moon.

In this post we will discuss about How to make Moon Phase Calculator With OLED Display Using Arduino. This small project displays the moon phase on an 0.96″ OLED display. Eight phases are shown with a short description, the days remaining to the next full moon is also displayed. This project uses a real time clock RTC Module DS3231 or DS1307 to provide the date. This date is converted into a Julian date. By choosing a date that had a known full moon, in this case 1st January 1972, the number of days from this starting point until now is easily calculated. The moon takes 29.53 days to complete the cycle from one full moon to the next, so if we divide the number of days since 1st January 1972 by 29.53 the remainder will be the number of days in this lunar month so far. The sketch divides the lunar month into eight parts, starting with a full moon then waning gibbous, last quarter, crescent old, new moon, crescent new, first quarter , waxing gibbous and back to a full moon. The number of days to the next full month is also shown. Source Code Link: https://www.how2electronics.com/moon-phase-calculator-with-oled-display/ Drop a like if you liked this video. The as-delivered Uncle Milton Moon In My Room toy includes an infrared remote to turn the LEDs on or off, trigger each progression of the moon's phases sequentially, or set it to slowly cycle through each phase automatically. This project replaces the remote control with an Arduino Nano and real time clock (RTC) which synchronizes the moon phase to the lunar calendar. Based on the current year, month, and date from the real time clock, the phase of the moon is calculated, the Arduino then turns on the right LEDs to more-or-less replicate the real current moon phase. Search Instrucables.com for "Arduino Controlled Model Moon" for info to build your own. You might think of this project as a large programmable night light.

Phases of the Moon. These phases are defined as New, Crescent, First Quarter, Gibbous, Full, Disseminating, Last Quarter, or Balsamic. These eight phases symbolically correspond with the stages in the planting cycle, beginning with the potential represented by the seed in the ground, and also to important seasonal events of the yearly cycle 4:00 Phase 1 - New Moon - The side of the moon that is facing the Earth is not lit up by the sun. At this time the moon is not visible. 6:19 Phase 2 - Waxing Crescent - A small part (less than 1/2) of the moon is lit up at this point. The part that is lit up is slowly getting bigger. 7:27 Phase 3 - First Quarter - One half of the moon is lit up by the sun at this point. The part that is lit up is slowly getting bigger. 9:11 Phase 4 - Waxing Gibbous - At this time half of the moon is lit up. The part that is lit is slowly getting bigger. Waxing means to slowly get bigger. 10:57 Phase 5 - Full Moon - The side of the moon that is lit up by the sun is facing the Earth. The entire moon is lit up at this point. 12:38 Phase 6 - Waning Gibbous - The moon is not quite lit up all the way by sunlight. The part of the moon this is lit is slowly getting smaller. Waning means to slowly get smaller. 14:31 Phase 7 - Last Quarter - Half of the moon is lit up but the sun. The part that we can see lit up is slowly getting smaller. 17:06 Phase 8 - Waning Crescent - A small part of the moon is lit up at this point. It is getting smaller by the minute.

Lunar Calendar Early humans record the passing of time. The earliest known lunar calendar is in the caves at Lascaux, southwest France, and dates from around 15,000 B.C.E. Various series of spots represent half of the moon's near-monthly cycle, followed by a large empty square,, which perhaps indicates a clear sky. A lunar calendar counts months ( a period of 29.530588 days) and is based on the phases of the moon. Months have twenty-nine and thirty days alternatively, and addtional days are added every now and then to keep step with the actual moon phase. The lunar calendar was widelyused in parts of the ancient world for religious observation. Agriculturaly the lunar calendar is confusing as it takes no account of annaul seasonal variations in temperature, daylight, length, plantgrwoth, animal migration, and mating. The lunar month divides into the solar year twelve times but with 10.88 days remaining. Meton of Athens noticed that nineteen solar years were equal to 234.997 lunar months. This led to the nineteen-year Metonic cycle where years three, five, eight, eleven, thriteen, sixteen, and nineteen had thirteen lunar months each, and all the pther years had twelve months.

Do the phases of the moon affect your hair growth? I cover the basic science behind why we see the phases of the moon, gravitational effects of the moon on your body, and whether cutting your hair somehow stimulates your hair follicles. Please note that this video is for entertainment/ informational purposes, and the opinions expressed in this video are strictly my own. Furthermore, my conclusion is that I couldn't find any scientific explanation that supports cutting one's hair during certain phases of the moon - this doesn't mean that an explanation doesn't exist at all. Many people believe in living by the lunar calendar, and it works for them. I try to respect all beliefs and practices as long as they doesn't cause undue harm to other lives. Do what you like. Wanna know what the Moon will look like over the course of an entire year? The folks at the NASA GSFC Scientific Visualization Studio created this amazing animation showing our view of the Moon over the entire year with time resolution of *one hour*! The tipping, tilting, and rocking are due to the Moon's elliptical orbit coupled with its tilt. This video says 2012, but considering that was first posted on March 1, 2011, I presume the images are from the year before...? http://www.teachastronomy.com/ The fundamental issue of calendars comes down to two astronomical numbers. One is the solar year, the time it takes the Earth to go a complete orbit of the Sun, or the time it takes the Sun to reappear at the meridian, at the highest point in the sky from one year to the next; a full cycle of the seasons. This is 365 ¼ days, roughly. A lunar month, or the time it takes between two consecutive similar phases of the Moon, is 29 ½ days. The problem of calendars comes from that fact that neither of these numbers is a whole number, and one does not divide into the other evenly. Thus, cultures in the world throughout the history humans have followed two different methods of calendars. Some people have followed the solar calendar, usually those who practice agriculture in northern latitudes. They follow the cycles of the Sun, and try to make a calendar that approximates as well as possible the solar year. Other cultures, primarily Arab cultures, have followed a lunar calendar. They ignore entirely the cycles of the Sun, and regulate their affairs according to the cycles of the Moon. Because 12 lunar months is only 354 days, or 11 days short of a solar year. If you keep a lunar calendar, your seasons and festivals will migrate through a solar calendar; one complete cycle every 33 years. This cultural difference between those who follow a lunar calendar and a solar calendar is also tied to religion. Most of the Islamic countries of the world still follow a lunar calendar. You see who they are by looking on their flag. You will see the crescent Moon, because that is how they keep track of their festivals, by direct observation of the lunar cycle.

If you meditate on a Full Moon Day, especially when the Moon is high up, you will have a lot that you can accomplish. The meditation on a Full Moon Day and a meditation on a New Moon Day are diametrically opposed to each other. There are specific meditations. If you want enlightenment, you meditate on a New Moon Day. If you want to speak to your dead ancestors, a New Moon Day is the best time to do. If you want money, material comforts, a Full Moon Day. Each Phase of the Moon is very important, and they carry a certain energy. And you can easily accomplish things by following this: Phases of the Moon. And these are secrets from the Yogis. The Yogis are so tuned to the Planets, tuned to Phases of the Moon, tuned to the Phases of the Stars. And they don’t want to waste their energy by speculating on anything. They know for sure and then they don’t even talk. They say "this is what it is." The most important thing is to just become conscious. ~Dr. Pillai FREE: SUBSCRIBE NOW FOR NEW VIDEOS & NEWS! https://www.youtube.com/user/pillaiCenter?sub_confirmation=1 https://www.youtube.com/user/HumanEvolutionTV?sub_confirmation=1 LET'S CONNECT!
