Oracle SQL Tutorial 23 - Intro to Data Types

05:03
Every column within a table has to be given what is known as a datatype. A data type is a fairly simple concept when you dissect the word. It is literally the type of data. Why do we use types, though? The biggest benefit is so that Oracle knows how to interpret and work with our data. It also makes the database better at rejecting incorrect data. If we had to concept of a data type, there would be a lot more work involved in forcing data to be of the right format. It would also be harder for us to get the database to treat the data in the correct way. In addition to this, a database can optimize storage and performance for a column if everything is of the same data type. Because of this, each column can only support one data type. There are numerous different data types in Oracle and it helps us if we categorize them. The first types of datatypes we should learn about are: String, Numeric, Temporal Now, there are few more categories we could make, but these are the main ones. We will worry about the other ones another day as I am only introducing the topic. A string data type is anything within quotes. Most databases use single quotes for string data. Inside of the quotes can be any number of characters. What is a character? Think of any letter, number, or symbol you can type. Some people call these letters, numbers, and symbols alphanumeric. Numeric data type includes only numbers. These data types are often used for data that you plan on using for mathematical calculations. Temporal data types are data types that are used for dates and times. Now, each data type is probably going to have some options you'll need to worry about, but one that comes up with every data type is storage. The reason we need to consider storage is because we may end up with millions of rows in a table and the difference between a few bytes for each row will make a huge difference when we look at the whole picture. When a data type gives you the option of size, you will want to a size that will be able to hold what you need, but nothing more. In the upcoming videos we are going to discuss the available data types in more detail. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Support me! http://www.patreon.com/calebcurry Subscribe to my newsletter: http://eepurl.com/-8qtH Donate!: http://bit.ly/DonateCTVM2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Additional Links~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More content: http://CalebCurry.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CalebTheVideoMaker Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CalebTheVideoMaker2 Twitter: http://twitter.com/calebCurry Amazing Web Hosting - https://www.dreamhost.com/r.cgi?1487063 (The best web hosting for a cheap price!)

View & manage your progress/pace 3. In-class projects and code reviews 4. Personal guidance from your Mentors ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A variable is nothing but a name given to a storage area that our programs can manipulate. Each variable in PL/SQL has a specific data type, which determines the size and layout of the variable's memory; the range of values that can be stored within that memory and the set of operations that can be applied to the variable. The name of a PL/SQL variable consists of a letter optionally followed by more letters, numerals, dollar signs, underscores, and number signs and should not exceed 30 characters. By default, variable names are not case-sensitive. You cannot use a reserved PL/SQL keyword as a variable name. PL/SQL programming language allows to define various types of variables, which we will cover in subsequent chapters like date time data types, records, collections, etc. For this chapter, let us study only basic variable types. With PL/SQL you can declare variables and then use them in SQL and procedural statements anywhere that an expression can be used. Variables can be used for the following: • Temporary storage of data: Data can be temporarily stored in one or more variables for use when validating data input and for processing later in the data flow process. • Manipulation of stored values: Variables can be used for calculations and other data manipulations without accessing the database. • Reusability: After they are declared, variables can be used repeatedly in an application simply by referencing them in other statements, including other declarative statements. • Ease of maintenance: When using %TYPE and %ROWTYPE (more information on %ROWTYPE is covered in a subsequent lesson), you declare variables, basing the declarations on the definitions of database columns. If an underlying definition changes, the variable declaration changes accordingly at run time. This provides data independence, reduces maintenance costs, and allows programs to adapt as the database changes to meet new business needs. More information on %TYPE is covered later in this lesson. Types of Variables" All PL/SQL variables have a data type, which specifies a storage format, constraints, and valid range of values. PL/SQL supports four data type categories—scalar, composite, reference, and LOB (large object)—that you can use for declaring variables, constants, and pointers. • Scalar data types hold a single value. The main data types are those that correspond to column types in Oracle server tables; PL/SQL also supports Boolean variables. • Composite data types, such as records, allow groups of fields to be defined and manipulated in PL/SQL blocks. • Reference data types hold values, called pointers, that designate other program items. Reference data types are not covered in this course. • LOB data types hold values, called locators, that specify the location of large objects (such as graphic images) that are stored out of line. LOB data types are discussed in detail later in this course.

Types Of Triggers: We can code PL/SQL in a variety of triggers in a report to provide conditional or additional processing at run times. There are three Trigger types in Oracle Reports, such as: Report -Five Triggers Data Model -Parameter validation Layout -Format trigger Report Trigger: Report triggers enable you to execute PL/SQL functions at specific times during the execution and formatting of your report. The function must return a Boolean value (TRUE or FALSE). Using this triggers, You can do things such as -customize the formatting of your report -perform initialization tasks -and access the database. To create or modify a report trigger, you use the Report Triggers node in the Object Navigator. Types Of Report Trigger: Oracle Reports has five global report triggers. You cannot create new global report triggers, such as: Before Parameter Form trigger After Parameter Form trigger Before Report trigger Between Pages trigger After Report trigger Before Parameter Form trigger: -It is fire before opening the parameter form After Parameter Form trigger: -It is fire after closing the parameter form Before Report trigger: -It is fire before opening the report output Between Pages trigger: -It is fire for each and every page except first page. MySQL Data Types 1 - Char and Varchar

05:18
Donate!: http://bit.ly/DonateCTVM2. Videos Available for Download - http://www.udemy.com/calebthevideomaker2-database-and-mysql-classes/ Playlist - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krx-w9icrkU&list=PL405B31DD586979DE Welcome to your very first video in this series, MySQL Datatypes! Please subscribe and like my videos, it means a TON to me. Thanks :) This is simply a small course to introduce you to all of the datatypes(excluding spatial, which I will not be covering in this course). All of the datatypes are broken into 4 sections, these are Numeric, Date and Time, String, and Spatial. In all, these are the datatypes I will be covering: tinyint, smallint, mediumint, int, bigint, decimal, float, double, real, bit, boolean, serial, date, datetime, timestamp, time, year, char, varchar, tinytext, text, mediumtext, longtext, binary, varbinary, tinyblob, mediumblob, blob, longblob, enum, and set. Wooah that's a lot. haha. I will not be going over geometry, point, linestring, polygon, multipoint, or multilinestring. If you want to learn more about Spatial types, start here: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.6/en/mysql-spatial-datatypes.html Want more information about what is covered in these videos? Always be sure to read the supporting page in the MySQL manual. http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.6/en/index.html Video information: Char and Varchar ___________________________ Char has a character range from 0 up to 255, varchar allows up to 65535. a max length can be specified in parenthesis such as char(40). char is right padded to fit the specified amount of characters, and the spaces are then removed on retrieval. Only trailing spaces will be removed. for example. Cat_hat__ will come out as cat_hat. This can be a bad thing if you need to store spaces. you will need to use varchar instead. If a value entered is too long, it will be "truncated," or cut to length. Extra info ________ a character set is an allowed range of characters that are entered into an entry. such as UTF-8. Utf 8 is 3 bytes for every character. the storing information for varchar and char are like this.. char - string length. varchar - string length+1. A 10 character entry using UTF-8 would then take 30 bytes in char, and 31 bytes in varchar, but if only 5 characters are entered, it will be 30 bytes for char, and 16 for varchar. This is because char stores the trailing spaces till the requested size is full (in this case 10). A table maximum row size is 65535, so this means if you have a varchar 65535 that is completely full in one column, that is the max allowed stored across that column. Any corrections needing made in these videos please message me. Thank you! MNG6: Using PL/Scope for Deep Code Analysis (PL/SQL Channel)

29:00
PL/Scope, added in Oracle Database 11g, offers an unprecedented ability to analyze source code. You can check for violations of naming conventions, find all places in your code that a variable may be modified, and much more. This lesson offers an overview of PL/Scope and provides a set of examples and scripts to help you put PL/Scope to use in your environment. This video was taken from PLSQLChannel.com, originally recorded before Steven Feuerstein re-joined Oracle in March 2014. ======================================== Practically Perfect PL/SQL with Steven Feuerstein Copyright © 2015 Oracle and/or its affiliates. Moving Java Forward Faster

46:06
The Java SE Platform and the JDK are moving to a rapid, six-month release cadence, with the next release in March 2018. We’ll review the motivations for this change and discuss how this impacts users. Aurelio is a Director of Product Management in charge of Java SE since 2010. He has been involved in the development of the JDK since JDK 7. He is a frequent presenter at JavaOne, with Java User Groups, and Oracle Customers. Aurelio's role includes making sure that groups within Oracle that use the JDK are well informed of changes as well as explaining what are the most relevant features and enhancements in upcoming releases. Aurelio joined Oracle in 2010 through the Sun Microsystems acquisition. He joined Sun in 2008. Before moving to California he worked in Workforce Managemen and Telecommunications in Florida. Aurelio holds a BS in Systems Engineering from Universidad de Lima, and an MBA from MIT Sloan. https://developer.oracle.com/ https://cloud.oracle.com/en_US/tryit
