Obviously it’s the shape of the wings, and the way they create lift as they move through the air. Imagine if you could have that same agility in your kayak. Because of the way your paddle moves through the water. And gives you support without needing to push it down. And propels your forward smoothly and quietly without needing to heave it back like a shovel. The Greenland paddle does exactly that. But what if I told you that there is one thing just one thing that will stop you from having agility with your greenland paddle. And without that one thing you are left with a clumsy stick that doesn’t give you an effortless forward stroke, or make rolling a breeze. Before I get started Let me introduce myself. I’m Paulo and ever since I learned that one thing I’ve been able to brace quickly, and have the peace of mind that allows me to explore the west coast. Where ever I choose. And keep myself out of the water even in rough conditions. Imagine if your paddle could give you the same agility that the airplane has. Just move your wrist a bit and the blade angle changes to give you instant support as it glides smoothly through the water. Why would you capsize. This ability to glide and give lift is what gives the greenland paddle the reputation for making rolling so easy. And as you can guess there is a bit more to the story. When I started with the Greenland paddle I didn’t know how to use it. I had a dream to have a quiet and energy efficient forward stroke, and the bracing and rolling power to keep me safe as I explored the beautiful west coast. But it didn’t work for me. My forward stroke felt sloppy and weak. And there was nothing to brace with. It just sinks down with little resistance. Thank god there’s an easier way. What I discovered is that there is a different way to move with your kayak. And that’s what gives you the agility. Instead of being jammed into your kayak like you would be in a river kayak, in sea kayaking you can unlock your hips and use them for power. The way you do for playing tennis, or baseball, or boxing, or for golfing, or walking, or any other sport really. As you can imagine using your powerful hips is a game changer. For paddling faster. And further without tiring. Or make sweep turns without the pressure that can cause shoulder pain. And do a low brace or a high brace without having to push down on the paddle in a way that can cause a permanent shoulder injury. Or leave your paddle deep under water where it gives you no support. Just use your hips to get quick support. And now you can brace as you paddle. Knowing that your hip power is always there to save you gives you peace of mind on the water. Now unlocking your hips is not just about power and agility. The real breakthrough it provides is something I never would have expected in a million years. It’s the secret that I’m sure we didn’t know about when we invented the new and improved big blade, and the hard to learn techniques that go with it. Yes using your hips gives you a quick brace. A powerful easy on the body forward stroke that helps you keep going all day. And instead of feeling cramped at the end of a paddle you feel like you got some healthy exercise. But there is an unexpected benefit that comes from unlocking your hips. The real secret is that when you move your hips you gain flexibility. So what? Well now if you capsize you don’t need to force your way through the water to get back up. You don’t have to fight against gravity. That extra flexibility makes you float up naturally. Just like you do when you are laying on your back in the water. You are not fighting against the water anymore. And you are not fighting with the kayak either. The water and the kayak are helping you, giving you support. Imagine what that does to your fear of capsizing? There is no such thing anymore. There is only in the water or out of the water. And either way you can relax and breath. Kayaking Tips - Greenland Paddle vs Euro Blade

I get asked this question a lot. Which is better? Pros and Cons. The truth is, they each have their strengths and weaknesses. Some love only one of the two. Others love both. I'm in this latter group. I like using each for its appropriate purpose. The conversation of comparing the two can go on for hours, so in this video I just focused on the general points that differentiate these two paddles from each other. How to Size a Kayak Paddle

01:46
Having the right size kayak paddle is the most essential decision you will make when buying the paddle. Even more important than the price of the paddle is the length of the paddle, so here’s what you need to know. It’s important to not have a paddle too short or you’re hitting your knuckles on the hull of the kayak. A paddle too long and your kayak zigzags in the water and you add unnecessary weight. So, your kayak paddle length is based on: - Your height - The width of the kayak - Whether you’re a high-angle or low-angle paddler Use this chart to determine your appropriate size: http://www.bendingbranches.com/sizing/kayak-paddle Generally speaking, shorter kayaks will be wider where you sit and require a longer paddle. Longer kayaks will be narrower in the middle and require a shorter paddle. The best method for ensure you have the right length paddle is to visit a local Bending Branches dealer and try before you buy. Ask to sit in the kayak or even demo their boat on a local lake. Kayak Paddles: 5 Fast Facts

02:43
See The 9 Best Kayak Paddles on Ezvid Wiki ►► https://wiki.ezvid.com/best-kayak-paddles Fact #1. To the dedicated kayaker, the sport isn't even called kayaking. It's referred to as paddling. Indeed, after the boat itself, the paddle is far and away the most essential piece of gear. In tandem with your own muscles and motion, it's your propulsion system, your rudder for steering, and your best line of defense against rocks, hanging branches, floating debris, and other obstacles. Fact #2. The long central tube is called the shaft, with the parts that actually dip into the water known as the throat. Many paddlers refer to the sections of the shaft just inside the throats as the grips. These are the areas where your hands will wrap around. At the very end of the shafts you'll find two discs called drip rings. These help keep water from running down toward the paddler. Finally, at the end, you'll find the all-important blades. Fact #3. When looking to purchase, the primary concern should be overall length. The proper measure is determined relative to user height. If you're less than 5 foot 5 inches, you should use one measuring 215 centimeters or less. If you're between 5 foot 5 inches and 5 foot 11 inches, you'll be best served by one around 220 to 225 centimeters. Note that all kayak paddles are measured using the metric system. Fact #4. If you're more interested in open water, usually plying the swells of an ocean, bay, or lake, it's a good idea to get a longer unit with plenty of surface area on both blades. While a long, large model can be a liability when you're trying to deftly dodge and turn in whitewater, on open water there's plenty of room on either side of the kayak. Fact #5. Far too often, amateur kayakers tire themselves out based on improper technique. Proper paddling is more of a core exercise than it is a burning workout for your biceps and deltoids. Always make sure to focus on posture and grip. Additionally, try to generate maximum force during the first few feet of each stroke.

It really depends on what your are trying to do in your kayak. I really like my pedal kayak but there are times I really like my paddle kayak too. Here are my answers. Kayak Paddling Technique with Zero Degrees Feather Offset Paddle

10:15
This is a quick demonstration of how to use a kayak paddle with a 0-degree offset angle between the blades (0 feather). There is an ongoing debate if 0 degree offset or some other angle is best. I will *not* try to tell you which is best or when to choose which angle. It is up to you! Other than, perhaps, that very small feather angles such as 30 or 15 degree make absolutely no sense whatsoever – they lose the benefits of 0-degree feather and do not have the benefits of higher feather angles such as 60-70 degrees, or even 90 in special cases. So why this video? There are some silly arguments floating on the web, including from Werner’s FAQ page, that claim that the wrist alignment cannot be properly maintained with a 0 degree feather. This is simply wrong. You will see for yourself. The key point is this: to correctly use a 0-feather paddle, the control hand must change from one side to the other during the stroke (while the paddle is in the air). While the paddle is in the water, getting ready to start the next stroke, the angle between the wrists is as much as 90 degrees (while the paddle is 0 degree feather). It is important to note that the angle between the wrists is *not* determined or related to the feather angle on the paddle. You choose a correct anatomic position and that determines the angle between your wrists. The feather angle is irrelevant for this. Note: this is not an instructional video on proper technique – mine needs work. It simply brings the point that a 0-degree feather works *exactly* the same as far as wrist alignment during the catch, power, and release phases of the stroke, and the only difference is during the setup for the next stroke: there, with 0-feather the control transitions from one hand to the other, while with a high-feather angle paddle the control stays always with the same “control” hand. I started with 65 degree feather many years ago. At some point I made the effort to switch to 0 degree, to benefit from Greenland-style paddles. Yes, it took some time to adapt, but now it feels completely natural: everything is symmetric on both sides – for paddling, bracing, and rolling.
