CSS Tutorial For Beginners 42 - Width & Height

06:27
In this CSS tutorial for beginners, we'll take a look at the final two properties of the box mode - width and height. Width and height can be given static or dynamic values (pixels or percentages/ems), depending on what you need. Working with percentage widths are a great way to develop responsive websites and pixel widths are best used for elements which you reeeaaally don't want to change width/height. Anyway, peace out, have fun, keep coding & don't forget to subscribe :). Width and height units (px, %, vh, vw) - Webflow CSS tutorial

03:59
In web design, you can declare an element's width and/or height using either fixed values or relative values. This video covers the most commonly used dimensions (outside of ems): 1. Auto-sizing (auto) 2. Pixels (px) 3. Percentage (%) 4. Viewport height (vh) 5. Viewport width (vw) 6. Minimum (min) and maximum (max) You can adjust an element's width and height in the Styles Panel, under the Layout section. We’ll be covering how each of these units work in the context of setting element dimensions. ---------- Get started with Webflow: https://help.webflow.com/courses/getting-started http://webflow.com http://twitter.com/webflow http://facebook.com/webflow

CSS Basics: 7. Relative Sizes (Percentage %)

02:35
Relative size is huge. The first one I wanna show you is percentage. AAAAAA this is a good one. You can say width: 50%. That’s legit CSS. But wait, 50% of what? Good question... Say we have P tag. I’ll give it a red background so we can see where it starts and where it ends. You should do that too. P tags by default are block level elements, I explain more here. so they take up the whole row. Their width is 100% of their parent. So by default it’s kinda like the P tag has an invisible rule on it that says width: 100%. They kinda just adjust to their containing parent element. Now what if I change the width to 50%; What if I add that to my CSS? BOOM. Look at that. Now it’s half the size. Wait, again, half the size of what? In this case the containing parent of our P tag is the body, I’ll add a green border to body so you can see. when I resize the window the body is getting smaller & bigger, but the width value that we gave our P tag stays 50%, relative to the body. Because it’s its parent. So when I resize the window, my P tag will automatically resize itself to be 50% whatever the body is. This is a technique used in responsive web design. It’s extremely useful. It’s not the end all be all, there are times where you don’t want a relative value, but if I used absolute values for width and height, my element might look great on one screen, but be completely unusable in a smaller device. So it’s safe to say relative values are mostly used to support different screen sizes. I don’t want you to worry about responsive web yet, it’s a whole course in and of itself, and I promise we’ll get there. There are other very important relative units I wanna show you, EM and REM, they are absolutely essential in sizing your text, something I brought up already. And that’s coming up next. Let’s go get it.

CSS3 Tutorial - Responsive Website Layout Media Queries CSS Stylesheets

05:26
Lesson Code: http://www.developphp.com/video/CSS/Media-Queries-Responsive-Website-Layout-Tutorial Learn to create responsive website layouts using CSS3 media queries. Media queries allow us to target a particular media type and then apply zero or more expressions that check for the conditions of particular media features. Using this logic we can adjust all CSS for our site according to the screen size of the device that a user is viewing it with. It will also be responsive if the user resizes their browser window well after your page loads. An alternative to a responsive layout is to simply use percentages for the width values of your elements. But some developers must completely restructure the layout according to the screen size of the viewer. That is where a responsive layout is applied. It also makes you look very capable in your web site design skills. CSS-Tricks Screencast #10: Fixed Width, Fluid Width & Elastic Width

16:40
There are three different types of layouts for websites: Fixed Width, Fluid Width, and Elastic Width. In this screencast we look at all these three varieties of sites out on the web as well as some hybrid sites and other techniques for making use of wider browser windows. True "fixed width" sites will be a thing of the past when the modern browsers of today take hold in greater numbers. Opera 9, Firefox 3, and IE 8 all have "zoom" abilities, which make fixed width sites behave like elastic width sites. At the end of the screencast I show a very simple example on getting started with all three types. Nov 23, 2008.

How to Set HTML Table Width and Height

It is used from being an organized data displayer, to being a complete web site layout. In this tutorial we will learn how to set HTML table width and height. Step # 1 -- The width The width of a table can easily be set with the width attribute of the (table) element. This width can either be a pixels count or a percentage value. The percentage value allows the table to resize based on the browser size, while the fixed pixel count makes the table firm and unchangeable. Step # 2 -- The height To set html table height just define the height attribute in the (table) element. This height can also be either pixel count or a percentage value, where percentage value allows adjusting to browser sizes no matter how small or large it can get. Following image illustrates how to set html table height. Together the width and height can allow a table to take customized space on the web page instead of its default content wrap state. And that's there is to know about the HTML table widths and heights.

How to Set Column Width in HTML Table

01:07
Follow this easy step by step tutorial to learn how to set column width in an HTML table on a webpage. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ It is a popular design practice to build a web page that uses a table to define its layout. But the main function of a table is to display data in a tabular form. The default settings allow a table to wrap column width according to its content. In this tutorial we will learn how to manually set HTML table column widths. Step # 1 -- Widths based on content Each of the rows in a table can contain cells. The first cell of each row makes the first column of the table. Likewise the second cell of each row makes the second column of the table. The column of the table sets its width based on the largest content from one of its cells. The cells above or below the cell with the large content expand to match the same width. This means that HTML column width needs only to be defined in any one cell of that column. As per ease and standards we will use the top row cells to define widths of all HTML table columns. Step # 2 -- Setting width HTML column widths are defined by the width attribute of the cell element (td). The width can be a value in pixels, to disallow any effect of the browser size on the table columns, or it can be a value in percentages, to allow adjusting to the browser size. The value for each column can differ upon need. And if in form of percentages, the values can allow resizing to browser size according to the percent ratio. That will be all for setting column widths in HTML tables.

Learn Adobe Photoshop - Image Size Options

02:16
SALE TODAY: Learn Piano on iOS http://bit.ly/PianoAppSale In this video, Mahalo expert Justin Z. briefly explains how to adjust the Image Size options in Photoshop. About Image Size Options --------------------------------------------------------------------- The size of your image will determine how large it is. It may sound obvious, but it's important to understand how image sizing works and how to make changes. For instance, you may be working with a picture that is too big for internet use, and the file size itself is too large to email. You can make it both smaller in size and shape without losing noticeable quality. Using Image Size Options --------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Go to Image -- Image Size in the top menu bar. This will open a new dialogue box showing you the dimensions and size of your image.  2. At the very top of this box is the size of the file (34.8M in the picture below). 3. Pixel Dimensions allows you to change the size of the image by pixel count or by percentage. Percentage is the easiest, but Pixels is more precise.  4. You will notice to the right of these choices is a small Chain Link. This keeps the proportions of your image intact. You can turn this off, but you run the risk of warping it. 5. Document Size refers to the physical width and height of your image. You have multiple choices regarding how to change this, which include inches, centimeters, picas, points and columns. 6. Resolution will determine the picture quality of your image. You can switch between pixels per inch or pixels per centimeter.  7. The check boxes below make it so you have less to worry about when it comes to image changes.  1. 8. Scale Styles will keep the effect constrained. 2. 9. Constrain Proportions will keep the image itself scaled properly. 3. 10. Resample Image will make changes to your image quality.  11. On the right is the Auto button, which allows for quick image quality changes. 12. When you are done you can press OK or Cancel and the changes you made will either take effect or not. Adobe Muse Responsive Height

Preview Here: http://www.qooqee.com/muse-widgets/responsive-height/index.html Responsive Height is a Muse that allows users to create objects with proportionally changing height, or percentage based height to those objects. Adobe Muse allows users to create objects with responsive width, but having a proportional height is a life savor in most cases, which is not possible to add in Muse by default, but this little Muse Widget allows you to have that.
