10 Things to do in Cardiff, Wales Travel Guide
Join us from Cardiff, Wales as we cover 10 things to do in Cardiff city including popular attractions, cool castes, green escapes, and Welsh food worth trying in this travel guide. Although we were sick for most of our visit to Cardiff, UK we ended up still finding enough time to visit the city center, our neighborhood and a few off-the-beaten path attractions. What we loved most about Cardiff, Wales is just how friendly the locals here are in the supermarkets, restaurants, pubs and cafe that we frequented. On a rainy day we might put on the kettle, down a few Welsh cakes and pop open our umbrella for a wee stroll. When it was sunny, which fortunately for us was most of the time, we enjoyed exploring castles and arcades while wandering around in parks. Cardiff is a city you appreciate the more you linger. You start to find favorite cafes, restaurants and pubs you return to frequently and after a while you feel more like a local after recognizing faces in and around your neighborhood. This is what we'll remember most and why we recommend visiting Cardiff which is a city with more of a town vibe. 10 Things to do in Cardiff City Tour | Wales Travel Guide: Intro - 00:01 1) Cardiff Castle (Castell Caerdydd) medieval castle and Victorian Gothic revival mansion - 00:18 2) Castle Arcades for shopping and restaurants in Cardiff, UK including Barkers Tea Rooms for brunch - 01:45 3) Welsh Cakes from Castle Arcade (Welshcakes) - 03:30 4) River Taff Walk (Afon Taf) - 03:42 5) Pontcanna Farmers Market - 04:20 6) Ruins of the Old Bishop’s Palace, Llandaff - 07:20 7) Cardiff Bay (Bae Caerdydd) for Wales Millennium Centre, Pierhead Building, Mermaid Quay, the Norwegian Church, The Doctor Who Experience, and Cardiff Bay Wetlands Reserve - 09:09 8) Principality Stadium (Stadiwm Principality) for Cardiff Blues rugby match - 09:45 9) Cardiff Central Market (Marchnad Ganolog Caerdydd) for shopping in Cardiff, Wales - 10:46 10) Welsh Food at a pub in Cardiff (Rarebit, Welsh faggots, Cawl) - 11:07 Outro - 12:16 GEAR WE USE Olympus OM-D E-M5 II: http://amzn.to/1OchS7t Canon G7X: http://amzn.to/1YdjsYX Olympus 14-150mm II Lens: http://amzn.to/1Y79zeM Rode Video Mic GO: http://amzn.to/1WDKtVM Joby Gorilla Pod: http://amzn.to/1PgoY5F SanDisk 16GB Extreme Pro: http://amzn.to/25KEErs SOCIAL MEDIA & TRAVEL BLOGS AUDREY: blog: http://thatbackpacker.com/ instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thatbackpacker/ facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thatbackpacker twitter: https://twitter.com/ThatBackpacker SAMUEL: blog: http://nomadicsamuel.com/ facebook: https://www.facebook.com/nomadicsamuel twitter: https://twitter.com/NomadicSamuel instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nomadicsamuel/ Our visit Cardiff travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a Welsh food guide, top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day including visiting neighborhoods, castles and museums. We also cover off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities you won't find in a typical Cardiff tourism brochure, Cardiff itinerary or Cardiff, Wales city tour. 10 Things to do in Cardiff, Wales Travel Guide Video Script: Well hello hello from Cardiff, Wales. New destination for us. New destination. It is our very first time to Wales and we're so excited to be here. We've wanted to come to Wales for a really long time and we're going to explore Cardiff and show you guys what you can do here in this travel guide. We started our visit of Cardiff Castle with a self-guided tour of the Castle Apartments. This is the newest-looking part of the castle as it was renovated in the early 19th century in the Gothic revival style. As part of the tour we got to see the Banqueting Hall, the Library, and a few different rooms, but the place that really caught our attention was the Arab room designed in a Moorish style which is quite different from the rest of the rooms. We continued on to the Norman Keep, which dates to the 11th century. The 12-sided structure sits atop a hill and is surrounded by a moat, and if you climb to the very top you get some nice 360 degree views of the city. And lastly, we visited the roman walls, and although these too have been renovated, the foundations date back to 50 AD. And that’s it for our visit to Cardiff, Wales. Our trip was short and sweet but we hope this video gave you a few ideas of things to do in Cardiff on your own visit. Now you know the drill, if you have any other suggestions of cool things to do in and around Cardiff, feel free to share those with fellow travellers in the comments below. Wishing you happy travels! This is part of our Travel in Wales video series showcasing Welsh food, Welsh culture and Welsh cuisine. Music provided by Argofox: From The Dust - Solar youtu.be/dFeNxFmvvA8

VANLIFE : Solo travels with campervan, hound.. cooking and exploring Wales
Solo travelled in my converted Peugot Boxer campervan to Wales UK into the wilds of the Brecons. Did some cooking in the van , hiking and coffee drinking in some pretty squally weather. Beautiful Brecons in Wales still feel pretty remote. Vanlife gives you such a sense of freedom and the comfort of cosying up when the weather turns foul. Welcome to Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyllllantysiliogogogoch
At 58 letters, Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyllllantysiliogogogoch is the longest town name in all of Europe. It wasn't always the town's name, though—in the 1860s, the name was developed as a way to entice tourists to make the town a stop on their travels. It's an amalgamation of the Welsh words and names for local landmarks, and it's probably the best PR stunt of the 1860s—or today. So yeah, welcome to Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyllllantysiliogogogoch! You don't need to be able to say it to enjoy your stay. And, we brought some new friends - Derek Hough, Brooks Laich, and Chloe Egbert. It is so special watching someone see and experience humpback whales in the water for their first time. The most exciting moment was when each of the kids joined us for a day on the boat. They were so brave and excited to see the whales. Thank you so much Social media: https://twitter.com/FLYSpeedbird1 Further information: The "Gerald of Wales" (Y Gerallt Gymro in Welsh) train service by Arriva Trains Wales (ATW) runs from Holyhead in North Wales to Cardiff Central, South Wales (with a few incursions into England). What makes this train service so special is its onboard chef, a rarity now on UK train services. First class passengers can enjoy cooked breakfast during the morning service to Cardiff and a three-course dinner in the evening. If there were numerous train services offering such onboard dining facilities decades ago (with famous names such as the "Brighton Belle"), this is now a rarity. The service only operate weekdays and you will find more useful information during the video. Considering the level of service offered, the Gerald of Wales offers excellent value for money (maybe thanks to a few subsidies from the Welsh government). Booking open 3 months in advance but if you want to catch the cheaper 1st class fares try and book 8 weeks ahead.. you could save £50 and get a first class ticket from £80 WITH freshly cooked breakfast or dinner on-board! I booked my ticket with Arriva Trains Wales - no booking fee (other website I would recommend to book train tickets: www.loco2.com. Some other websites may charge additional fees) The Gerald of Wales service is only only referred to by ATW as a "Business Class" (I think the "Geralf of Wales" name was more inspired and suitable: as a royal clerk to the king and two archbishops, Geralf of Wales travelled widely) In October 2018, operation of this services (with the Wales & Borders franchise) will pass to KeolisAmey Wales. Breakfast: - fruit juices and breakfast cereals - grilled sausage, back bacon, black pudding, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes oe baked beans, egg to order - vegetarian option available - toast Dinner menu (example): Choice of starters Taffy Iam cawl with a crusty cob Grilled asparagus with lemon scented holandaise Prawn with crab tian salad Marie Rose Choice of main course Welsh black rib eye steak with roasted balsamic vegetables served with a Peppercorn sauce Flaked Poached Salmon and laver bread risotto with pea and asparagus jewels Seasonal vegetable lasagne with garlic herb bread served with a dressed rocket salad Choice for dessert Gingernut biscuit based chocolatecheese cake with cream Local fresh strawberries with clotted cream Blaenafon handmade welsh cheese served with homemade local chutneys and biscuits (alcoholic beverages are extra) Arriva Trains Wales: https://www.buytickets.arrivatrainswales.co.uk/ Other UK train services with onboard fine dining:Great Wester Railway Pullman dining https://www.gwr.com/plan-journey/journey-information/on-board/pullman-dining Check-in and boarding: **** (one exception: Arriva Trains Wales website is terrible) Seat comfort: **** Cabin cleanliness: ***** Staff: ***** Food and drinks: ***** Entertainment: n/a Value for money: **** Recommend: yes Thanks for watching. Prince Of Wales Travels (1925)
Story on Prince of Wales (future King Edward VIII and Duke of Windsor) setting out on a royal tour; but footage is more of life aboard ship for British sailors / British Royal Navy. Intertitle reads: "The last good-byes said, Captain Hope gave the order to cast off." MS back view Prince of Wales with ship's officers on bridge of HMS Repulse as ship casts off. Intertitle reads: "As the 'Repulse' proceeded to sea, the Prince returned the salutes from vessels in the harbour." Prince of Wales salutes as ship's Captain, Vice Admiral George Hope, looks through binoculars. Intertitle reads: "Forty-eight hours later, in the Bay of Biscay, the 'Repulse' passed through the lines of the Atlantic Fleet - homeward bound from Gibraltar." Travelling shot from Repulse, passing line of ships of the Atlantic Fleet in the Bay of Biscay; the Prince looks at them through a telescope with an officer. Intertitle reads: "The stately line of cruisers was followed by a strange looking vessel - the aeroplane carrier 'Argus'." (New intertitle) "Now the voyage had begun in earnest - and we settled down to the normal routine of life on board." M/S of a sailor on deck, silhouetted against the sunset as he holds a gushing water pipe - it looks like he is having a pee! Two other sailors enter shot and help to wash the deck with a bucket and broom. Intertitle reads: "After our morning clean down came 'Divisions' - Morning Parade - with inspection by the Prince." High angle shots from the upper deck of the Prince inspecting lines of sailors. Intertitle reads: "Then followed a muster for morning prayers." Various shots from morning prayer service on forecastle; chaplain with officers behind; sailors standing with caps off. Intertitle reads: "On... caps!" L/S of the sailors putting their caps on. Intertitle reads: "The impressive service in the clean morning air was followed by exercises." After service; sailors jog round the deck; in BG a group on forecastle does exercises. Intertitle reads: "As the 'Repulse' headed south into tropical seas we were glad to get into hot-weather kit - and out of it when opportunity offered." Recreation aboard the Repulse: sailors go for a dip in a swimming pool rigged up on deck. Shots of the men swimming; splashing and climbing on a bar just over the pool. Intertitle reads: "Our first port of call was Bathurst, the capital of the Gambia Colony, where we arrived on April 4th." Tracking shot of the coastline at Bathurst taken from the ship; Africans walk along by the shore. Africans watch the 'Repulse' come in to the pier. The Prince and other officers in white uniforms come ashore. A banner is strung across the path to the city walls reading 'The Gambia Heartily Greets Your Royal Highness'. Intertitle reads: "Young Bathurst - as represented by the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides - paid vociferous testimony to its --- loyalty." (title is decomposing and impossible to read.) Various shots of Gambian children, waving Union Jack flags and singing. Intertitle reads: "Then, to the strains of a weird and wonderful orchestra, the Prince received distinguished notabilities." Various shots of the Prince standing under a canopied-dais with some dignitaries, shaking hands with African men who come to the stand one by one; African men holding traditional instruments watch. African women strain for a view of the Prince. The Prince shakes hands with several European men - could be veterans? Intertitle reads: "The Prince displayed an almost professional interest in the various musical instruments." M/S of the Prince standing with a group of men, looking down at the African instruments. One of the men stands and plays his instrument; the Prince watches, then he and his entourage move on. Intertitle reads: "Buried in his art, our star performer had not realised that the Prince had moved off in search of other attractions." M/S of the man realising the Prince has moved on, then he starts to play again. Intertitle reads: "But Bathurst's red letter day was drawing to a close - and soon all roads led to the waterside, where the Colony gathered to wish the Prince bon voyage." Various shots of townspeople walking towards the waterfront to say farewell to the Prince. Note: parts of the film are decomposing. Some sections of the original story may be missing; earlier database record mentioned a sequence where sailors watch as mail is brought to the ship. FILM ID:738.14 A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. UK PM travels to Wales to sell Brexit deal, dismisses concern about US trade
(27 Nov 2018) British Prime Minister Theresa May on Tuesday battled criticism of her withdrawal agreement with the European Union from both politicians at home, and US President Donald Trump. She travelled to Wales for meetings with business and political leaders and will later in the day move on to Northern Ireland - where her parliamentary allies in the Democratic Unionist Party have vowed to vote against the agreement. On Monday, May's sales campaign received a blow from Trump, who said the agreement seemed like a great deal "for the EU" and would make it more difficult for the UK to strike a trade deal with the US. But the prime minister denied Trump's comments had put a dampener on Brexit. She said under the Brexit agreement, Britain would be able to negotiate trade deals with countries around the rest of the world. The Brexit withdrawal agreement, approved by the EU on Sunday, has been savaged by pro-Brexit and pro-EU British politicians as a messy compromise that leaves the UK half-in, half-out of the bloc. Spring Break was so so great! We literally hiked all over the United Kingdom! Some things that you don’t get to see watching the video are how freezing cold it was in March (including the freezing cold water I jumped in), how incredible my friends are and how much I miss them now that we’re all safe and sound in Texas (and California) and how many miles we walked while we were in Europe (definitely more than a thousand, that’s for sure)!
