WHY THE CASEY NEISTAT TYPE OF EDITING STYLE?
Casey Neistat is one of my favorite YouTuber out there up to date. He's take these mundane daily routines and turns it into an interesting story with his crazy jump cuts, time lapses, the way he treats his boxes and tools, the urban cool smooth beats, I LOVE ALL OF IT. So that's why you see me, trying to act and imitate Casey's way of editing. Sorry if I'm being too much.
So here it is, you wanted to know what it takes to recycle skateboards! It's really simple, you just call and ask skate shops near you and convince them to recycle skateboards!
Now I understand your city might not have a skate shop... and that sucks...and all I can say is you might want to try asking any skaters you might see when you're driving around. Try not to be all creepy and act like you're trying to sell him/her drugs or something. Be cool. Make friends, you just gotta take the first step!
The wall art I made is super simple to build. The edges of the skateboards are cut with the fence set at 0.25 inches from the blades. I have so many because I been saving those pieces ever since I started few years back. This edge pieces is the ONLY piece you'd see from the skateboard that still has the "history" of skaters. Some are chipped, scraped, painted, etc. And like Jerry said, it's not just recycled skateboards, this is their story.
I'm using a 23 gauge pin nailer with an air compressor. But like you saw it in the video, it's loud, it's obnoxious and I looked around and found this alternative! No hose?! No compressor?! What?!
Ryobi makes great tools for its price. I personally use their tools, it works great and that's all I need. Hi, Ryobi!
NOTHING WAS STAGED, WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET!
Jerry and Patty (wife) are one of the most amazing couples in Los Angeles. They're really out here trying to make the best out of nothing. The "Skate 4 Educate" program really provides these kids with alternative outlet for them to express who they are and really guide them into being the great and amazing future leader they'll be one day. Every time I stop by this shop, there's ton of kids around, anywhere from 10 to 30 kids daily. And they have a strict rule so that they HAVE TO finish their homework before they can play. And Jerry or Patty or both as the same time are helping them with their homework and really being there for any kind of support.
East Los Angeles is tough, if you're not from Los Angeles, let me tell you, not all of Los Angeles is "Hollywood". These kids are coming from broken families, single parent family, or in some worse cases no family at all to take care of these kids. And this Garage Board Shop really provides this comfortable space where kids can stay off the streets, stay off the gangs and drugs, and come in and focus on homework and improve their grades and ultimately pushing themselves to become a better person EVERY SINGLE DAY! The Garage Board Shop constantly holds workshops to teach these kids alternative ways to be creative and really take more interest in investing for themselves in the future.
How these kids raise money is by cleaning up the streets and collecting cans and bottles and that money gets used to buy chocolate boxes. And the money they make from the chocolate boxes, it goes right back to the kids to provide right supplies and tools for them to succeed in life. This way, it teaches kids to clean up the streets and also teaching the importance of WORK, nothing is given to you!
Who knew skateboarding was so much more than just bunch of misfits with blonde tips, beyond baggy jnco jeans, Osiris D3's, and pukka shells?
Anyways, thanks for watching this video!!! You know the drill,
