►Subscribe for more videos: http://bit.ly/MarkWiensSubscribe Bhutan Food and Travel Guide - Day 1: My wife and I flew from Bangkok to Paro, Bhutan on Druk Air. We landed in Paro, and it was about an hour taxi ride to get to Thimphu, which is the largest city in Bhutan, and where we were going to base ourselves. After getting settled into the My Bhutan house, we headed out to the Thimphu Farmers Market, a local produce market. Bhutanese food lunch at Kalden Restaurant - For my first ever Bhutanese food meal, we headed over to Kalden Restaurant, a local restaurant in Thimphu. We ordered ema-datse, which is the Bhutanese food national dish of chilies and cheese, plus a number of other cheese dishes, which we ate over rice. It was an amazing first Bhutanese meal. Indian vegetarian food dinner at New Grand Restaurant - We ordered a spread of dishes including aloo ghobi, and one of my personal favorite, chili paneer. It was an amazing first day, flying from Bangkok to Paro, Bhutan, and then on to Thimphu. I was blown away by my first Bhutanese food meal! Bhutan is one of the most expensive countries in the world to visit, charging a tax (or fee) of $250 per person PER DAY. No way around it, unless you hold an Indian passport where you are exempt from these fees. Yes, Bhutan is expensive, but yes, Bhutan is worth it (trust me!) WHY DO THEY CHARGE $250 PER PERSON PER DAY? In this video, I explain the reasoning behind why the Bhutanese government charges such a hefty fee, and why I strongly believe that it's worth spending the money to visit! Have you ever been to Bhutan? Are you planning to go? Stay tuned for tomorrow, as we're going to hike up to the famous Tiger's Nest! Bhutan travel guide, Taktsang Monastery, Paro, Bhutan trip, Bhutan - Paro tourism & vacations Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube Bhutan is a small country in the Himalayas between the Tibet Autonomous Region of China and India. Besides the stunning natural scenery, the enduring image of the country for most visitors is the strong sense of culture and tradition that binds the kingdom and clearly distinguishes it from its larger neighbours. Bhutan is the only Vajrayana Buddhist nation in the world, and the profound teachings of this tradition remain well preserved and exert a strong influence in all aspects of life. Due to its pristine environment and harmonious society, the tiny Kingdom of Bhutan has been called "The Last Shangrila." See in Bhutan ========== The majority of tourists do "cultural tours" where they visit important destinations. Paro, Thimphu, Punakha, Wangdue, and Jakar are popular destinations. Further afield, the unexplored region of Zhemgang (birders paradise, excellent wildlife viewing) and Eastern Bhutan have just been opened up to tourism. If you are an adventurist and want to explore the unexplored the east of Bhutan is the place for you. This unique and yet untouched part of the country offers the ultimate experience. Taktsang Monastery (Tiger's Nest), Paro. This is one of the most important Buddhist sites in the world, and Guru Rinpoche visited here in the 8th century on his second visit to Bhutan. It is the most recognized and visited monument in Bhutan. It is believed that he arrived on the back of a winged tigress, hence the name, Tigers Nest. The temple is built on a 1,200 meter cliff and was built in 1692. The hike up to the Tiger's Nest can be very strenuous and you can rent a horse to bring up the mountain for about USD $10. The horse ride is a one-way trip (this is recommended if you are not very fit and may face altitude sickness) and you have to make your way down the mountain by foot. For independent travelers, taxis can be arranged to reach Taktsang Monastery. As on May, 2014, a reserved small car will cost you Nu 500 for a round trip and takes about 20 minutes one way. The car will drop you at the site and then will come to pick you up at a later fixed time. You can visit Kyichu Lhakhang Monastery on your way to Taktsang. Hundreds of monasteries dot the landscape in some of the most pristine and remote areas. Kurje Lhakhang, Jakar. A temple built around a cave with a body print of Guru Rinpoche embedded in the wall. Guru Rinpoche practiced meditation here on his first visit to Bhutan and as such it is the earliest Buddhist relic in the country. Dzongs/Fortresses =============== Tashichho Dzong is a Buddhist monastery and fortress on the northern edge of the city of Thimpu in Bhutan, on the western bank of the Wang Chu. It has traditionally been the seat of the Druk Desi (or "Dharma Raja"), the head of Bhutan's civil government, an office which has been combined with the kingship since the creation of the monarchy in 1907, and summer capital of the country. The main structure of the whitewashed building is two-storied with three-storied towers at each of the four corners topped by triple-tiered golden roofs. There is also a large central tower or utse. Built in 1216, Semtokha Dzong in the Thimphu Valley was the first dzong built in the country. The dzongs are ancient fortresses that now serve as the civil and monastic administration headquarters of each district. Apart from the architecture, which in itself makes a dzong worth visiting, they also hold many art treasures. Trekking ========= Trekking is also extremely popular. The Druk path is the most commonly trekked from Paro, to the capital Thimphu. However, many other more impressive treks are available, see the complete list below. The Jomolhari, and Laya Gasa trek are also very popular and the Snowman Trek is reported to be one of the toughest treks in the world, taking a approximately 30 days. The recommended season for this trek is mid-June to mid-October. Scenery ======= Bhutan pristine environment offers ecosystem which are rich and diverse, due to its location and great geographical and climatic variations, Bhutan’s high, rugged mountains and valleys boast spectacular biodiversity, earning it a name as one of the world’s ten most important biodiversity hotspots.

Tiger’s Nest Monastery in Bhutan is one of the most famous attractions, and the beauty is mind-blowing! ►Subscribe for more videos: http://bit.ly/MarkWiensSubscribe On Day 19 of our food and travel trip to Bhutan, we dedicated the entire day to trekking to Tiger’s Nest Monastery in Bhutan (Paro Taktsang in Bhutanese Dzongkha), which sits literally on the edge of a cliff. The hike takes about 3 - 4 hours or so, and since I wanted to beat the main crowds, my wife and I left from the hotel quite early to get a head start. It worked out quite well, because we were some of the only people on the trail that early in the morning. The fresh air was amazing. We wound our way along the trail, and soon we could get amazing views of Tiger’s Nest hidden in the clouds and on the side of the cliff. The trail, although steep, isn’t really dangerous in any parts, as long as you keep your eye on the trail and don’t try to get too close to the edge. At the top of Tiger’s Nest Monastery they don’t allow any photography, so you have to check in your bag. We walked around the monastery for a little while, ate some snacks, and then headed down. Despite Tiger’s Nest Monastery in Bhutan being one of the most famous attractions and icons of Bhutan, it really is spectacular. Round-Trip Taxi from Paro to Tiger’s Nest - 1,400 BTN ($20.99) It’s typically recommended that you visit Tiger’s Nest at the end of your trip to Bhutan so that you acclimatize better to the elevation. Gangtey Palace Hotel - After returning from Tiger’s Nest, we checked into the classic Gangtey Palace Hotel for our final night in Bhutan! Bhutan is a small landlocked country situated between the Tibet autonomous region of India and China. Bhutan is often called to be “The Last Shangri-La”. The diversified culture and centuries-old tradition differentiate between Bhutan and other countries. Bhutan has subtropical climatic conditions which mean hot summers and cold winters, hence October to December is considered to be the perfect time to visit Bhutan. The weather remains chilled and pleasant during these months making it perfect for honeymooners to enjoy their much-awaited honeymoon in Bhutan. Along with that, planning your trip to Bhutan in December allows you to witness several authentic festivals in Bhutan. Bhutan honeymoon trip in December is perhaps the second best thing which you can attempt and the first one being the decision of spending honeymoon which is the best time for newly married couples to come closer to each other and raise the level of romance. December is the time when winter succeeds in the country and the temperature becomes reasonably cool with a clear sky and fewer crowds which are perfect for visiting the astonishing sightseeing locations. So, consult a credible tour operator in Siliguri like Enroute Trip and book your Bhutan honeymoon packages at the most reasonable price.

COMMENT BELOW WHERE IN THE WORLD YOU ARE WATCHING FROM!! This was our first big trip since having our house and we traveled to Asia. We had a SUPER long travel journey and ended up spending a day in Bangkok, Thailand. We were really excited because we were able to go to the floating markets. They were just incredible. We really love Thailand. After our short stay in Thailand, we made our way to Bhutan. Bhutan just might be the most unique country we've ever visited. As a country, they have stayed so true to their roots with their dress, architecture, culture, etc., it's very cool to see! We are working with Breathe Bhutan - who helped us organize our tour through Bhutan. If you're considering a visit, we highly recommend you check them out. https://www.breathebhutan.com/ A special thank you to Le Meridien Thimphu for hosting us! ✱ 102 Hotels in Bhutan - Lowest Price Guarantee ► https://booki.ng/2S5gjLb Travel video about destination Bhutan. The independent kingdom of Bhutan is located in Southeast Asia, most of it being two thousand metres above sea level and is situated between India in the south and Tibet in the north. Until the 1960’s Bhutan was protected from intruders due to its geographical location and was totally cut off from the outside world. Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan. On the northern edge of the city on the banks of the Wang River is the Pangri Zampa Temple, two impressive white buildings in the centre of a monastery. A school of astrology is located behind an unusually long prayer wall of carved stones surrounded by a forest of cypress trees. The road to Punakha travels across the Dochula Pass from the top of which more than a hundred chortens appear in the mist. A chorten is a container for religious offerings that symbolize Buddha’s consciousness in the Himalayan countries, and are therefore sacred. As quickly as it arrives, the fog vanishes, and the Druk Wangyal Ihakhang Temple suddenly appears out of nowhere. At the end of a valley, about fifteen kilometres from Paro, and located on a hill, is the once proud Drukgyal Dzong Fortress. At its foot, the beautiful village of Tsento nestling against protective rocks and surrounded by fertile fields which are brown or green according to the season of the year. Bhutan is an amazing country has retained its ancient traditions, religious secrets and cultural identity. -------------- Watch more travel videos ► https://goo.gl/MXPgSs Join us. Travel video about destination Sikkim and Bhutan. Surrounded by the world’s highest mountains is a fascinating world whose exotic charm enchants all who experience it, from the plains of West Bengal up into the Himalayas. Siliguri is a vibrant city located within India’s Terai Plain, a peaceful provincial town with calm streets and shops that once supplied the region’s tea pickers with their daily needs, has been transformed into an important crossroads for travellers to the Himalayas. Siliguri Train Station is the starting point of one of the most famous train journeys in the world, the Darjeeling Himalaya Toy Train which climbs to an altitude of more than two thousand metres, negotiates eight hundred and seventy three bends and crosses more than five hundred bridges. Sikkim is strongly associated with Tibet and possesses more than two hundred monasteries. The most holy monastery of the Nyingmapa Schools is in Tashiding and is located on a mountain in the east of the country along the route from Darjeeling. The independent kingdom of Bhutan is located in Southeast Asia, most of it being two thousand metres above sea level and is situated between India in the south and Tibet in the north. Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan. An array of prayer flags adorn a bridge in the centre of the city and close by is the large Tshonhkhang Marketplace, a colourful meeting place for both farmers and traders. For more than a thousand years Bhutan has survived in self-imposed isolation, cut off from the outside world by its own deliberate policy. Sikkim and Bhutan: two gems of history, monastic culture and religious life. -------------- Watch more travel videos ► https://goo.gl/MXPgSs Join us. Folk Heritage Museum Restaurant serves some of the best Bhutanese food you’ll ever eat. ►Subscribe for more videos: http://bit.ly/MarkWiensSubscribe If there’s one Bhutanese food restaurant you have to eat at when you’re in Bhutan it’s the Folk Heritage Museum Restaurant. This was probably the best Bhutanese food meal that I had in all of Bhutan. The food and the knowledge of Bhutanese culture was amazing. Folk Heritage Museum Restaurant - They also have a museum, but the best reason to come here is for their restaurant. They aim to really preserve traditional Bhutan culture and food. Even though I had been in Bhutan for almost two weeks already, I tried some very unique Bhutanese dishes at Folk Heritage Museum Restaurant and also got a lesson on how to eat traditional Bhutanese food. This is one of the world’s greatest Bhutanese restaurants and preservations of Bhutanese culture in Thimphu. Here are some of the main Bhutanese dishes we ate: Suja - herbal butter tea Sweet buckwheat Bitter buckwheat noodles Dried fiddlehead ferns Roasted barley dough Bamboo shoots and fermented beans Dried beef with fermented yak cheese Sikam paa - dried pork with chilies Chanterelle mushrooms Ema datshi - chillies and cheese Bhutanese chicken curry Kewa datshi - potatoes and cheese After our huge Bhutanese food lunch we had some Indian food with Matt including some momos and paratha for dinner. It was a great day of food in Thimphu, Bhutan! Disclosure: It was an honor to be invited by MyBhutan to visit Bhutan to explore Bhutanese food and culture. Bhutan Paro Bhutan is also known as Land of Thunder Dragon. Here's is the first part of my Bhutan ride in which I crossed Jaigaon International border on my motorcycle to enter in to the happiest country Bhutan. Bhutan, a Buddhist kingdom on the Himalayas’ eastern edge, is known for its monasteries, fortresses (or dzongs) and dramatic landscapes that range from subtropical plains to steep mountains and valleys. In the High Himalayas, peaks such as 7,326m Jomolhari are popular trekking destinations. Paro Taktsang monastery (also known as Tiger’s Nest) clings to cliffs above the forested Paro Valley. Paro District is a district (dzongkhag), valley, river and town (population 20,000) in Bhutan. It is one of the most historic valleys in Bhutan. Haa Valley - Adjoining the districts of Paro, Chhukha and Samtse, Haa valley is one of the most picturesque places in the Kingdom, spread over an area of 1706 sq. km. Chele la (pass) at an elevation 13000 ft asl is considered to be one of the highest motorable passes in Bhutan. About an hour's drive from Paro as it passes through lush valleys, pine and rhododendron forest. A road trip on our bike from Kolkata to Paro via Phutsholling. The planning came into effect after we started our journey from Kolkata this May'2017. Month's of preparation, weeks of Planning and days of riding gave us endless memories which is portrayed in this Vlog. The roads are awesome and so was the view. The trek to Taktsang was equally enjoyable except for the fact that you need to be fit enough to make that trek. City of Paro and its view cant be explained unless one experiences it first-hand. People are way too helpful to make you feel like home. It was a treat riding on the tarmac running between mountains and rivers accompanying you. Hope you will enjoy. Bhutan places to visit and Bhutan trip budget calculator : Bhutan is one of the smallest countries in the world, its cultural diversity and richness are profound. As such, strong emphasis is laid on the promotion and preservation of its unique culture. By protecting and nurturing Bhutan’s living culture it is believed that it will help guard the sovereignty of the nation. These are included in top list of places to visit in Bhutan. Bhutan boasts of about 300 species of medicinal plants and... about 46 species of rhododendrons. Some common sights for... the visitors are the magnolias, junipers, orchids of varied hues,... gentian, medicinal plants, Daphne, giant rhubarb, the blue and trees such as fir, pine and oaks. A wide range of rare and endangered animals can also be found frequenting the dense jungles and high mountains of Bhutan. Due to the countries conservation efforts and its unspoiled natural environment Bhutan supports thriving populations of some of the rarest animals on earth and has thus been classified as one of the last biodiversity hotspots in the world.
