Combining the CrossFit training methodology with a diet of meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar brings "a jet stream of adaptation," says CrossFit founder Greg Glassman. In the pyramid Glassman created, nutrition is the foundation, with met-cons, gymnastics, weightlifting and throwing, and sport following. "Each level builds on the level below it," explains Nicole Carroll, director of certification. "If your nutrition sucks, these things will not be where they could be if it were more solid." Likewise, Glassman says CrossFit favors Barry Sears' Zone Diet "because it does give me accurate and precise prescription for caloric intake and, more importantly, the exact levels of macronutrient that I can start at." Likewise, trainers and coaches can make informed decisions on how to tweak an athlete's diet for improved performance, he says. CrossFit HQ trainer Pat Sherwood says nutrition isn't an either/or aspect of training. "It's not quality or quantity. It can and it should be both." 5min 14sec

Greg: "what causes heart disease is not dietary fat intake, but excessive consumption of carbohydrate." 4:30 This is a strong point that should be looked into and it is contrary to the documentary "What the health" which stresses that fat from meats is the biggest cause to heart disease.

My problem with this diet is the huge amount of meat (as a European, it's way way too much...!) and too little fruits. They are right to suggest no added sugar, no processed stuff and more veggies...but beyond that it's just not for me. Also, the right kind of bread (whole grain with no added crap, baked in a bakery) is very healthy.

If you train for marathons... You are supposed to have one energy gel every 45 minutes during long runs. Those gels are basically 100 calories (mostly sugar). Is that OK?

Fat loss is primarily about calorie deficit. Let's say that it takes 2500 calories per day to maintain your weight and you take in 2000 per day of carbs. You'll still lose 1lb a week. Now obviously you want a well rounded healthy diet where you consume junk food sparingly in moderation. But complex carbs are NOT the enemy. If you train like an athlete, they provide fuel for your body. Personally, I'm a fan of intermittent fasting.

I am involved with crossfit, but this video sounds like cult shit. Everyone knows that they shouldn't eat ice cream and Twinkies every day. Having discipline to eat right most of the time is the key to success and don't let anyone tell you that you are doing it wrong.

Having supreme discipline is what It's about in anything in life. Whether it comes to training, playing a sport, instrument at your job, at the university and so on. Usually many people suck at balancing. When they fall off they fall off fully and lose themselves. There are still many that know how to balance but that's not the majority unfortunately. I had a friend back when I was at the University of Michigan and he would party hardcore and be able to wake up go to class study for 7 hours and get A's. Me I wouldn't wake up on time and my grades would fall down so I had to stop partying days before school. It's like that with food with me to, If I slip up for 1-2 days I know what will happen.

Don't get them from a can but rinsing them out sure does help. Usually they say to stay away from legumes. Beans,Lentils,Peanuts. Instead eat veggies and nuts like almonds, macadamian nuts and if you want carbs sweet potatoes, white potatoes. Gluten free oats are good. Just make sure not to eat too much carbs and starches, It's about balance, but I would stay away from refined carbs, processed foods, sugars, vegetable oils, gluten, dairy.

A good rule of thumb is to look at the people giving out the advice and more often than not the paleo/Atkins/zone cuntbags look like shit and the high carb low fat vegans look great. The fact every cell in your body is powered by sugar. So carb the fuck up and start fuelling your body on whole plant foods not cancer promoting and artery clogging animal foods.

Vegans look like there dying. I take a lot of paleo advice but I still have gluten free oats, sweet potatoes nothing wrong with that. Even white rice and white potatoes won't hurt after a workout. It's about not eating processed shit, refined carbs, sweets, junk food, and limiting sugar. Nothing wrong with Organic 90% grass fed beef that I EAT :) Neither the free range organic chicken & eggs that haven't been given antibiotics and hormones, wild salmon, lean turkey breast. Issue is most people won't pay the extra 5$ a pd for that stuff but will pay for there pop, chips, cookies, canned foods, processed meals, fast food and restaurants. It amazes me!

The best diet depends on the person. Some like paleo, some are vegan, some follow a bodybuilder type diet. If it works for them, it can work for you. But YOU have to try it, don't let other people decide for you.

This is completely misinformation; the world reowned antropologist from Dartmouth college, Nathaniel Dominy, PhD : "A mayority of calories for most hunger- gatherer societies came from plant-foods, not animal foods, thus humans might be more appropriately described as starchivores". The myths that human brain double in siza cause of eating meat doesnt have any proved. From the Asia continent to the Americas, Plant based was the source of their diet. That's my diet now. Lean Beef, Poultry (Chicken/Turkey), Fish (Salmon), Veggies, Low Fruit intake, Gluten free Oats, or bread, cook only with coconut oil, Eggs, Nuts & Seeds are minimum too, Sweet potatoes & White potatoes. Sometimes I have white rice but a conservative amount. Spices & Herbs rather than soy sauces ect. This is the way I feel everyone should be eating. They say Yogurt is healthy however I'm not sure.

It is a great one off guide for learning how to hack your flow state minus the hard work. Ive heard some great things about it and my work buddy at last got cool results with it.

Yes, higher sugar intake obviously correlates to cardiovascular disease rates, but this doesn't allow such a radical statement. I am not aware about a single study that has shown clearly that saturated fat is a better caloric source than moderately glycaemic carbohydrates, but of numerous who contradict to this.

I refused to give up the idea that eating heavy vegetable was the way to go. Kept my training the same and finally agreed to a two week Keto diet with a friend. I kept it for 8 weeks and lost 25.4 lbs and am at 13% body fat now. I eat plenty of dark green leafy vegetables and berries, but I'm a good 60-70% fats every day. I never believed this would work, but my BP improved, my cholesterol dropped, my triglycerides dropped...blood glucose dropped. I was always "healthy", but shit, now I am cut and muscular...and all I did was adopt a similar nutritional regime to this. No products, no pills, no gimmicks....so, I'm not selling anything. Give it 2 weeks and see if this is for you. I miss fruit and yogurt and oatmeal...but, those are special occasion foods now. Not part of my daily, weekly or even monthly nutrition. That's all....

I still have gluten free oats and white rice at times. I just believe the idea is to not eat processed bullshit and reduce sugar and refined carb intake as much as possible. Just makes sense. So I guess I'm paleo but I mess with it a bit to make it less cult like and fit my needs.

Reading through the comments, I'm SO GLAD that finally some people know the truth and are mentioning high carbs/high fruits instead of that much fat. Anyone who is currently following the advice from this video, please do yourself a favor and look into eating less fat and way more carbs. I eat 15 bananas a day, several potatoes/sweet potatoes, tons of vegetables, chick peas, a few organic eggs, and very little fat. So why do I still have a sixpack even though I'm eating that many bananas?

Am absolutely sold on Crossfit's approach to physical movement and nutritional programming for the pure and simple fact they have an army of monsters male and female, young and old as walking evidence of its efficiency. Bodybuilding and Fitness models of course have their hard working poster childs but nothing as overwhelmingly unanimous as Crossfit.
